Business email compromise is by far the most lucrative and easy to launch cyber crime.
It originated from Nigeria in 2013. Business email compromise is the fooling of an individual or an organization to send sensitive information or money to the cyber criminal.

TOOLS NEEDED
1. Forged lookalike email.
2. Fraudulent bank account.
3. Malware.

STEPS TO CARRY OUT BEC
1. Use the malware to insert yourself in the email account of the target company to monitor incoming and outgoing emails, with a view to gather intelligence.
2. Edit wire and ACH transfer instructions to your fraudulent account.
3. Send the edited payment instructions using your forged lookalike email.

HOW TO STAY SAFE
1. Avoid clicking suspicious email attachments and links.
2. Always call before you make sensitive money transfer.

No BEC still ranks as the no.1 threat, it has even been reloaded with Artificial Intelligence.

As of today you can't spot a BEC email. Since the hunter now know how to shoot without missing, also the bird now know how fly without perching. One key take away from the FBI report is the high rate of success of BEC attacks, watch out, you or your organization might be next. Never feel relaxed always stay at alert.
