On 5th October, 2019. Nigeria witnessed what would become the first ever marathon event in Anambra state, South-East Nigeria. The 21km "race of distinction" saw elite runners from all over the world alongside over 1000 local participants compete for glory.

Onitsha City Marathon was created as a viable vehicle, to trigger the development of sports entrepreneurship in the South-East, inspire athleticism in Onitsha, and also to project the city onto the world stage.

Come September 30, 2023. We will be doing it again, but this time, the event will be much bigger and much better.
