Cultist surrenders weapons to police in Rivers State

Following numerous raids on the cult's hideouts, General 2man, a known cultist in the state, surrendered his weapons and ammunition, according to the Rivers State police on Friday.

This was stated during a news conference in Port Harcourt by the state's commissioner of police, Emeka Nownyi.

The cultist, according to Nownyi, comes from the state's Ogbogolo community in the Ahoada West Local Government Area.

He added that the police were pursuing other fleeing gang members and revealed that General 2man was the local Green Landers cult group's commander.

General 2man'm' of Ogbologbolo community Ahoada West, the leader of the GreenLanders Cult Group, surrendered to police operatives one AK-47 rifle with six live 7.62 x 39 mm calibre rounds and two SMG rifles, according to operations of the command on Friday at around 0730 hours.

More raids against the hoodlums have been planned in an effort to find any additional weapons and ammo they may be holding.

He also said that members of the command had detained 39-year-old Isaac Okoma of Alebiri in the Bayelsa State LGA of Ekeremo in connection with the death of Baptist Waterfront employee Josephine Ibiju.

The matter will shortly be handed to the SCID, Port Harcourt, he said, adding that preliminary investigation has already started.

Nownyi added that agents busted the drug trafficking organisation Rumuokwuta in the Obio/Akpor LGA after receiving reliable information. He noted that when the agents spotted the police, they fled while leaving their narcotics and guns behind.

According to the CP, "The infamous crooks turned on their heels and fled into the canal, leaving the following things behind: Four packets of Chesterfield cigarettes, five different GSM phones, 50 wraps of marijuana thought to be Indian hemp, 42 sachets of hard drugs thought to be loud, six sachets of Chelsea drink, 20 sachets of Eagle drink, 10 sachets of Tombo bitters, and 14 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were all found.
