Everything is politics in nigeria, up till now i still dont know the reason why they force former IGP Usman Alkali baba and chief of Army staff, farouk yahaya to retire because the two of them have been doing well ever since they were appointed by buhari. 1 Like 1 Share |

This is a two way issue considering Nigeria's peculiarity with corruption in the military. All the senior military officers that have gone so far have retired into immense wealth and their continued stay won't change anything. Besides, with the number quoted, what did they accomplish before leaving? A protracted BH war which they obviously used in enriching themselves? Non stop oil theft in the Niger-Delta with the connivance of the Navy? Those guys are just darn happy to go and enjoy their ill-accumulated fortune at the detriment of the rank and file in the military. 3 Likes |

Nigeria have no single General, In real society, to be a General you must have led Your country to war with an aggressor and conquered or returned with victory at least three Times, Some countries made theirs Seven Years You must have commanded a troop or Legion which is about 3000 to 6000 Soldiers You must have earned the admiration of your nation in being a strategic warlord to be regarded as a General Nigeria is a corrupts country that was never founded upon truth, The Nigerian so called Army are not Nigerians Army The current so called Nigerian army are a bunch of Job seekers wanting to survive using military camouflage , were hired by illegal government and they abuse the rights of the masses which other Army of sensible countries protect. If anyone remember that George Goldie, the owner of the Royal Niger Company and one of the founding fathers of Nigeria had an army. When the Africans were misbehaving he would send his militia to deal with the Africans. Goldie's militia was part of what became the Nigerian Army. The irony , Goldie must be laughing from his grave in his time it was Palm oil. That is why the Nigerian army have no regards for the Nigerian citizens because they are really not representing the Nigerian people 5 Likes 1 Share |

That's the best way to keep the military in check and prevent coups, but at the same time, it affects the country's security, as experience is very important to having a formidable Armed Forces. |

Initially i thought our Armed forces had a case but its abnormal having so many generals. The hierarchy should be a pyramid with few generals at the top. Unfortunately promotions are lopsided hence this baggage. Unfortunately some good and patriotic officers will be affected. If im not wrong, getting to the rank of Colonel is enviable. What is needed is respect and equity to be returned to the ranks with adequate emoluments during and post service. Even if you are a corporal and you are well provided for, there will be contentment and pride in service. 1 Like |

Curse777:Nope it's not. Colonels actually do write exams and have to pass them before becoming brigadier generals. It's from Major general that I'll agree is political. |
Re: How Nigeria ‘lost’ Hundreds Of Generals To Early Retirement by samonak(m): 9:31am On Aug 06, 2023 |
Curse777:Even Colonel is political, because once you're through with Staff college in Jaji ( Senior Division) you hang Lt- Col, after that any promotion is based on quota system and federal character. I served in 82 Div Enugu and witnessed a peculiar situation where a Lt - Col ( Salihu) was still on that rank whereas his course mates were Cols and Brig Gen. The reason was that, in his state of origin ( Kebbi) they had many generals who were still serving. Unless they retired, they would be no space for him to attain the next rank. So he stagnated on that rank. The Army doesn't want a situation were many Generals would come from a particular area like you had with the Langtang Mafia. 3 Likes |
