The imperative lies with the governors of the southwestern region of Nigeria to coalesce and collaborate earnestly for the advancement of the territory. While traversing from Onitsha to Akwa to Enugu to Aba, it becomes apparent that scarcely any city within the southwestern precincts could match the comprehensive indices exhibited by the aforementioned locales, with the exception of Lagos.

Taking Ogun state as an illustrative example, the conspicuous absence of effective governance has resulted in a lamentable state of affairs. It is disheartening to witness a state in such close proximity to Lagos languishing in terms of rudimentary amenities.

The state of affairs is compounded by the archaic implements wielded by our agrarians, who persist in adhering to antiquated agricultural practices. The decrepit state of educational institutions and the crumbling healthcare infrastructure further compounds the predicament. The southwestern region's current semblance stands as a mere vestige of its former self; a stark contrast between the potential promised on paper and the reality that diverges from it.

Despite producing a cadre of leaders who have ascended to prominent positions within the nation's hierarchy, our zone remains ensnared by underdevelopment. Perceived as a domain of sophistication, our populace is paradoxically afflicted by privation and malnutrition. Unfortunately, the lack of visionary leaders has cast a pall over the southwestern landscape, except for the notable exception of Lagos, which thrives commendably.

Senator Daniel's initiation of the Southwest Development Bill within the Nigerian Senate warrants commendation. While the specifics of the bill elude me, its resonance with the imperative of regional advancement is palpable. It is incumbent upon us to rally behind and harness this legislative initiative to engender the much-needed development of our cherished enclave.
