According to The Associated Press, Niger's junta threatened a top US diplomat that if surrounding countries tried military action to restore deposed President Mohamed Bazoum's power, they would kill him.

During her visit to the country this week, representatives of the junta informed US Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland of the danger against Bazoum, a Western military official said on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.

An official in the United States verified that account, saying on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.
Bazoum, who was deposed on July 26, claims to be held hostage at his home.

The regional ECOWAS alliance announced on Thursday. It has put in place military intervention to restore democracy but has not disclosed actual location and time of strategy.
West African Union heads of state met Thursday in Nigeria's capital, Abuja.

When asked for clarification, the president of the ECOWAS commission, Omar Alieu Touray, said he could only reaffirm the decisions of "the military authorities in the subregion to deploy a standby force of the community."

Financing had been discussed, and "appropriate measures have been taken," he said.

He blamed the junta for any hardship caused by the sanctions imposed on Niger and stated that any future actions by the bloc would be taken jointly, rather than by any single country.

US don start their propaganda thing. This particular junta guys may look hard on the surface but deep down there can't hurt a fly. Go and look at all of their photos online, they're like street men in military uniform. I personally don't think they have that gut to kill Bazoum. They publicly show up Bazoum during his resignation after the US has asked them to release him immediately. Secondly, they're acting so unprofessional. If you refuse negotiation when what you did (coup) is already criminal in the face of at least 2 laws (UN & Niger's constitution). So, use of force is allowed.
