I became a little concerned when I saw this in a brand-new school building in Lagos. To get advice on the probable effects of this crack in the beams and columns (also known as the Pillar), I thus called my top structural engineer. After doing a visual inspection, we came to the conclusion that the fracture is either a result of the building's settlement or the filling of an expansion joint.
