Would You Pay N25,000 Or N40,000 For A Nigeria-branded Shoe? by shadex1(m): 10:16pm On Oct 12, 2011 |
Shoe Lovers! The Curious Case Of Nija-branded Shoes (terry G, Durella, ruggedman) I don't mean 'made in nigeria' as in made in Aba, what I mean is a shoeline owned by a nigerian and recognised as a brand owned by a nigerian. I was surfing the web and I came across Ruggedman's fashion line 'The 20th September Wear' (T.S.W). He makes ladies shoes, wristwatches, shirts and the likes though, I only got to see pictures of his shoes and I was really impressed by the design and concept behind it except for the fact that people were on about him stealing the design from another fashion designer. The prices were affordable as I read, starting from as low as N5000 for the shoes (correct me if am wrong) as opposed to that of other owned-by-nigerians' shoes.for example, Durella's sneakers which cost N25000! Yes! Nigerians are crazy about getting what is in vogue but I don't think you can get the average fashion freak paying that much for a shoe that is owned by a nigerian and a shoe that doesn't have a recognized brand name.you would get a pair of jay z's sneakers, 50 cent and the game's sneakers for the price of one durella's sneakers. There are also a few other supposed luxury shoes out there, lofas-like with some fancy designs on them like Terry G's shoes which I heard retails for N40,000!!! and also other brand names with the same concept retail for about N15000 to N30,000 My point is, the quality of the so-called luxurious shoes nigerian's own are not any better than those we buy for N5000-N10,000 that have more recognized brand names. And let's assume the design of ruggedman's shoes weren't stolen like people said, would you be crazy about buyin them if they cost between 5-7k? Would you pay N25,000 or N40,000 for a nigerian-owned brand? What if a Nigerian shoe designer comes up with a unique design, can he get you and nigerians crazy about it as much as TOMS, drivers, plimsolls (assuming the price is affordable) Would you prefer the nija-owned brand to have 'made in china' on the label or 'made in nigeria' Please be as realistic as possible with your reply. Below are pictures of the nigerian owned shoelines Ruggedman 1st Durella 2nd Terry G 3rd Jimmy'd shoes 4th

I love shoes and wear a lot of it. What I go for is not brand name but quality, now if I'm sure that what I get from Durella is of the same quality with what I get from jay z,then I have no problem buying from durella. My own na make I get the value of my money, brand name shouldn't be the most important thing to consider,na whether na original you dey buy be the main thing, for me sha. |

he would have to market them well . that's the problem , well any where. you have to give the illusion of exclusivity. like refusing to sell to certain people, it's all about hype, I would pay for them, but they have to be well made and somewhat exclusive. maybe a limited number are created. |

I will pay the said amount for a Nigerian Branded Shoe if it is made of quality materials. I don't really care about the name of the designer. As long as the product is good, I will buy it. It is high time we start supporting our designers and entrepreneurs. Cheers. |

Why do we even blame the presidents/governors all the time without taking some blame? We are our own enemies in NIgerian, If its ok to buy a foreign branded shoes for 1 milla tell me why i shouldn't patronize made in Nigeria shoes for same cost? ANSWER: I patronize Nigeria made products and if the quality of the shoe is ok I can pay 100,000 Naira for it. Mind you, there are so many other High Class Nigerian shoe designers you did not mention, |
