The Gross Incompetence Of UPS Courier Company by bendovex: 9:12am On Aug 27, 2023 |
Hello Nairalanders. I'm not sure if this is the right section to put this thread. I want to share my ugly experience using UPS courier services to send a package from Nigeria to London, UK. We needed to send some documents to London and due to the importance and urgency, we needed the documents to get to London as soon as possible, we opted to use UPS courier company. We were told to pay for express service,if we wanted it delivered fast, and we did, this would later turn out to be our worst mistake ever. On the 15th of August we paid for the delivery and were assured that it would get to London within 3-5 business days. On the 5th working day we contacted UPS office to find out why our package was yet to be delivered and the people at their office could not even account for the delivery. We tracked the package via their website and it said the package was on the way but still at Dubai. Then on Thursday, 24th August, I wrote them an email explaining to them that our package has not been delivered even after paying for express delivery and its over 9 working days. There was no reply to that email. I sent a DM to the Twitter handle @UPS, detailing the whole event, but I got a response from DM that their Twitter handle is only for US shipments/deliveries and does not carter for Europe. We went back to their office, this time we insisted that we were not leaving until the package is delivered, after a very long phone calls by the staff we saw and several back and forth, we were given a phone number to call one "Duncan" We called several times but no one answered the phone. Later that day, I received a mail from Duncan saying that they were sorry, that the package was delayed. I made it clear to them that if the package isn't delivered on Friday 25th August, that we would be at risk of losing huge business interest and that if that happens, UPS will be paying huge compensation for the inconvenience they've caused us due to their gross incompetence. I also requested for assurance that the package would be delivered on 25th August, I was told that it will be delivered and that their top management staff are on it and that the package will be in the next BT flight to London. Unfortunately, till this minute, the package has not been delivered. When tracked, it says the package is in Keoln, Germany. I believe UPS courier company are brazenly doing this because they feel they can get away with anything in Nigeria due to the fact that there's no functional government agency that regulates and oversees their activities, they feel their customers are helpless, therefore nothing will happen. We are considering instituting a lawsuit on monday against UPS courier company for breach of contract and loss of business interest due to their gross incompetence. It is sad the way these companies operate in Nigeria. They behave anyhow because there's little or no government checks. I have never seen such a poorly run business. No customer service. Poor communication and correspondence. Zero issue resolution channels. You're practically on your own and at their mercy. Totally unacceptable. I will not advise anyone, not even my enemy, to use UPS courier services. They are the worst courier company on earth. Admin please move to front page to get more traction.

Sorry about that... You have said it all. They know this is Nigeria and they can get away with anything. DHL is still preferable. |

Shezzman:I prefer DHL to ups. DHL is more reliable to some extent than ups. 1 Like |

bendovex: Was the package ever delivered?.... if yes... when? What you should've done was contact Customer Service in the country where DHL has its HQ. Your package would have been delivered by the next day ... you would've been refunded and the local agent been reprimanded . Don't ever be fighting with local agents... get their details and report to HQ. About these companies and mailing.... chew on this. FedEx is King when it comes to Express services ... especially documents. This company was established to do such for businesses.... fast delivery of documents ...and businesses remain its target customers. UPS ... same target customers ... businesses ... but to deliver parcels... both US based. DHL is a late comer... EU based ....same customers targeted ... businesses. Now we can understand why their services are soooo expensive. NIPOST .... USPS .... government regulated delivery agencies .... not profit driven ... like the others ... but to provide the services to its citizens. The government agency is always the least expensive... how reliable and safe depends on the country. Not sure about the UK .... since Royal Mail has long gone private. With sending to the US ... I'll advise anyone to use NIPOST ... or their International Express if you need anything delivered in a hurry. NIPOST is in direct collaboration with USPS. Sending to Nigeria is a different story .... USPS is reliable and trusted to deliver ... NIPOST is not. DHL fans ... do you know DHL charges you a lot to deliver parcels in the US but they don't? Except for Express ... they serve as a middleman... handing off your parcel to USPS for delivery. If you ever sent a parcel via DHL ... find out who delivered. |
