Two days before president Buhari left office, he hurriedly signed the NDLEA @ndlea_nigeria amendment bill into law. The law was to make the NDLEA totally independent, & out of some powerful influence & control.

The law was to take away NDLEA from the Ministry of Justice, where they are currently domiciled, to the presidency where they will enjoy first line charge for funding. The law will review the salaries and allowances of NDLEA officers, making them one of the best paid agency in Nigeria.

The law will reform their working conditions and commands offices nationwide, giving them world class structures across the nation, fitted with internationally certified equipments.

NDLEA will be empowered by law to go anywhere around the world, to track down Drug barons doing business in Nigeria, in collaboration with foreign partners. The law will permit NDLEA to visit drug cases, no matter how long such cases has been hidden.

They can conduct fresh investigation, and prosecute offenders. The law will empower NDLEA to prosecute Drug barons and drug to the fullest. There will be enough funding provisions already in place.

The law will take away the eyes of NDLEA officers, from accepting bribes, as it is currently the case. Because their salaries will be enough to contend with. They will be one of the best paid agency in Nigeria, if not the best.

But the sweetest part of the law is, Drug barons and drug offenders will no longer be given the option of fine, if arrested for drug related offences. THEY MUST SERVE JAIL TERM. Those obsolete laws currently being used in drug related prosecutions, will be expunged.

With this law, @ndlea_nigeria will be the most active agency in Nigeria. This law was enacted due to pressures from international drug organizations, and some foreign powers, if Nigeria is to be taken seriously on the fight against drug trafficking. Also to get donations, foreign aids, better ratings and good image for the country.

Pressures were mounted heavily on the House of representatives @HouseNGR committee on Drugs and Narcotics, from Buhari and the presidency, when it became clear that Tinubu will never honour such bill if taken to him. He will not sign it into law, as someone with drug related baggages on his head.

The committee had to work 40 days straight, to see that this bill is passed, and also ensure their Senate counterparts concurred, so the president can sign it into law. See attached Facebook post from the former chairman, House of representatives committee on Drugs and Narcotics Hon Francis Ottah Agbo, confirming the signing into law of the NDLEA amendment bill by president Muhammadu Buhari.

But since Tinubu came on board, he has kept the implementation of the law pending. Not even a word as regards it. Sources in the presidency confirmed that the law is as good as dead with Tinubu in charge. Because implementing it, is like shooting his foot by himself. The law will somehow catch up with him and his cronies. If not now, it will be much later.

I see this news as a very nonsensical and sensationally misrepresentative to whip up some unnecessary and unverifiable sentiment.

Talk about giving a dog a bad name to hang it...

I'm not the strongest of BATs supporters but whatever this report seeks to achieve will be dead on arrival to anyone who can think very critically.

Let's assume BAT is every negative thing and name in the book that he is alleged to be and that we call him.

Why would he kick against an agency that will be domiciled under his direct purview from whence he can control and supervise their operation and logistics directly.

How do you expect a notorious narcotics drug trafficker engaging in criminal state capture allow the implementation of the new NDLEA law

You waste attention on these people, people just wake up to cook news out of their ass.
Worse part a large percentage of Nigerians don't use whatever it is they have inside their school, they don't digest information by critically analyzing it.
Just hook line sinker, most just read headline and share.
As long as it is against Tinubu it is a fact for them

Your caption and your story are saying two different things. A total misrepresentation of issues, giving a dog a bad name to hang it. That consent for implementation has not been given, it doesn't mean that the president has blocked it! There’s a lot on his table, ambitions (for good & bad) are riding on the tribunal’s judgement. Implementing autonomy and increasing wages for just one agency would be the least of your priorities if you were in his shoes too.

So tinubu don't want the agency to be under his direct control where he can decide what case to investigate or not, and the fund he can afford to give them?
Btw, criminal cases are not statute barred, it can be acted on at any point in time there is a new discovery.
