A police officer has been shot dead by an unidentified gunman in front of a Hotel in D-Line, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State. The incident has been confirmed by the state Police Command. SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the command’s Public Relations Officer, said in a statement, that the officer was shot by a yet-to-be-identified gunman on Friday night. According to Iringe-Koko, the officer, who is an inspector, was attached to the Department of Operations in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State. She added that the hoodlum shot the officer who was on escort duty in the head while escorting his principal to a hotel around Oroworukwo within the D-Line axis of the Olu-Obasanjo area, Port Harcourt. She disclosed that the AK-47 rifle and beret of the officer were carted away. The statement further revealed that “police patrol teams were immediately mobilised to the scene” and that efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing criminals and recover the rifle while the corpse of the policeman has been deposited in a mortuary. https://.ng/2023/08/27/gunman-kills-police-officer-in-rivers-steals-rifle-beret/
