You are selling bread at N1000 a loaf. Would you agree to sell it at N100 a loaf to help the poor? Be honest in your answer.

I hate to hear this word palliative in Nigerian context. It is a corruption embedded project.

Subsidize energy is the way out of this present mess and not sharing a cup of rice that cannot feed a family

APC should stop this nonsense palliative they keep doing. They are upsetting price equilibrium by creating artificial demand on the market. Unfortunately, the rice and food items in the market will be kept in warehouses till they go bad.

That means you will need forex for import and most likely run to CBN, then cry that emefiele finished all the dollar again.

Instead, let's embrace production and substitute imports as much as possible.
But this things works perfectly during Jonathan time now. Border was open and rice was cheap.

Comprehend before replying. Borders can be open but local production must be prioritized otherwise the naira will lose value and the foreign goods that look cheap at the moment will become costlier locally again.

Not true at all. The ONLY solution to the Nigeria Crisis is FREEDOM, in this case ECONOMIC FREEDOM. Allow the people of Nigeria to buy whatever they want from wherever they want at whatever the price may be...whether rice, dollars, fuel, granite, electricity, education, land and whatever else you can imagine. And everyone will be fine in a few years. That's a guarantee.

Depreciation of the naira will actually be BENEFICIAL to Nigeria, the reason why the economy isn't reaping the benefits of a falling naira is because the FREE MARKET PRICE is illegal. That's all it means when we say "black market price" of dollar. The solution is simple - CBN must float the dollar and allow everyone to trade it as they wish without regulated price.

The artificially strong OFFICIAL PRICE of naira is the reason why imports are cheap and thus have a competitive advantage over locally produced goods and services.

It's unfortunate that the vast majority of Nigerians have a poor grasp of economics. No surprise they go about dispensing foolish ideas.

The root of the Nigeria Crisis is GOVERNMENT intervention in markets. Nigerians have evolved a socialist socio-political culture and it's killing their country. Withdraw the FEDERAL government from ownership and control of any form of production and remove all regulation of prices...and Nigeria will thrive, within 5 to 25 years the country will be richer than South Africa, Turkey and Chile and Italy.

Anyway sha, Good Luck to Nigeria.

How many Nigerians earn below 60k ? I need the statistics. Also, from the research done in California, how many Nigerians will die by the age of 60 cuz of poverty and because they have not move to America?

Likewise, is it true that someone can be successful within 2days when they land in America with just $2 in their hand?

No.

Rice was 8,000 when Buhari came, went to 19,000 the next year, by then minimum wage went from 19k to 33k, then border closure took rice to 38k, now we are reading 44 to 56k, what exactly are you justifying?

That the border closure benefitted the civil servants or the hustlers buying it?

So, if you won't help the poor by reducing the price of the loaf of bread to N100, why do you want the rice sellers to help the poor then?

Can you see the problem?

Have you considered the bad economic polices of the Buhari admin caused the issues that led to rises in prices?

Oga, what is good for the goose is good for the gander. Like you, rice famrers have obligations to meet.

So, why won't you help the poor by selling loaf at N100? Why not?

Yes I understand. 97% of Nigerians live below $1.9 a day. Ever since our government adopted $$ as our local currency, this has been the case. Lol. Fools 😂. One thing you should ask yourself is whether the $1.9 statistics is accurate. Is $ our local currency in Nigeria? Why calculating and converting and estimating the money u spend on food in $ when it’s obvious u don’t spend $ in Nigeria? I understand our propensity to worship the white peoples and their currency, but try and be using sense sometimes. Don’t always shove ridiculous stats published by ur lords and saviors down ur ass

Is the cost of living in Abuja same as in San Francisco? The below is the rent per month of some units in SF. Be using sense bro. Ur wahala on this America is too much. Live in peace in ur America and make ur money. Stop confusing people and stop ridiculous comparison.

Why have you brought USA immigration and living conditions into a discussion of Nigerian economic policy? Please take it easy, I didn't destroy the Nigerian economy, I just made factual comments and observations. Nigeria is the Poverty Capital of the World, just about every other country in Europe and North America provide better and more accessible middle class lifestyle. That's not my fault.

Thanks and have a good day.

Well, at school I was taught the idea of making a profit at business and why it is important

Your comment shows that if you were running a business you would sell at a loss to help the poor. Commendable, but an easy way to.ruin your business . And to promote the kind of saboteurish behaviour that is ruining the oil sector

Am sorry to say.. But your sense of judgement is not intune with the reality on ground.

In other words, you still have alot to learn regarding the workings of the economy.

Would have gladly enlighten you now but my hands are full at the moment.

So i suggest you leave your high horse and enter a local market nearest to you and do a little sample research. Ask questions. So you get the juice of the whole issue before you open up to say your piece.

A simple advice bro.

Sorry, man, but the point of my argument is simple.

If you are selling something, it is better YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO SELL IT AT THE PRICE YOU WANT TO SELL IT, not AT THE PRICE THAT GOVERMENT OR ANYONE WOULD DICTATE FOR YOU!

Got it?

That is what I am defending. But you no wan see am.

Anyway, I have tried!

The average Nigeria is a monopolist and will unionize to enjoy price fixing advantage. There is need for price reduction but not to the extent of making losses. No business sustains itself on losses. That's the point.

What you are saying is pry school economics.

Everyone or anyone goes into business to make profit. Thats crystal.

The milion dollar question here is, will the policies of the government create an environment for a free market economy to thrive ??

And for the record... You are going against your own claims in relation to the fuel subsidy saga.
Where the government claims to have removed subsidy and still pegged a price at which the commodity will be sold.

You now see that supporting this government is a no brainer. Because it makes you doubt your reasoning ability. grin

Well, if the government is still pegging petrol prices, they are wrong. Simple.

Also, you are the one arguing for price controls. I'm not.

Government should have no business pegging petrol or any prices. But then again, I have always learned to be cynical of the APC, PDP and them, and not to trust them.

But then again, since NNPC is still the majority importer, everyone has to follow their price formula so to speak. It's not like NNPC is run by government anymore. Maybe when others get in on the import game, and refinereis come on line...we may see some changes.

Good morning.
