A commercial motorcyclist has died while his two passengers sustained injuries in a road crash in Ogun State.

The Ogun police command said the crash was recorded on Friday along the Lusada-Igbesa road, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

A truck driver identified as Muyiwa Akinranti had reported the incident to the police.

According to Omolola Odutola, the police spokesperson in Ogun, Akinranti told the police that the accident occurred as he was driving his truck, with registration number SYE 982XA, from Lusada inward Igbesa at Gasline.

The driver had said that while he was preparing to turn towards Lusada at a turning lane, he noticed a vehicle approaching from Igbesa towards Lusada, and “as he waited for the vehicle to pass, a reckless motorcycle rider, riding on top speed from Lusada collided with the left side of his truck.”

He had stated further that he alighted from his truck to assess the impact of the collision, unfortunately it resulted in serious injuries to the three occupants involved.

The trio were reportedly rushed to St. Ann Hospital in Lusada, where 35-year-old Joshua Zossu, the okada rider, was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

Odutola added that the two passengers, Messrs Yusuf Yinka and Moses Stephen, are responding to treatment.

The vehicle, PM NEWS learnt, had been recovered for further inspection, while the corpse was released to the family after presenting a sworn affidavit for withdrawal of the case.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, while condoling with the bereaved family, reminded drivers, bike riders and other road users to observe safety measures on the road.

I feel for the occupants, not the reckless rider. That's how these aboki riding motorcycle whose lives are cheap always ram into a moving vehicle.

Okada is a very deadly means of transportation

This is really a sad news. A breadwinner is gone.

But on a second thought, what's it with Ogun state of late? It's been on the news for some wrong reasons (road crashes).

The Fedral Road Safety has more work to do than just taking sensless bribe on the road.

The way okada riders speed on the road would make one think they have another duplicate life to replace their life with.

Anyway, i do hope other riders/drivers/road users would learn from this unfortunate incident & drive responsibly.

As passengers on motorcycle aka Okada let always caution the rider whenever he is on top speed. If he refuses, kindly use wisdom to tell him you want to pick call and come down jeje. Tell him to go that you are not going again.
