The Metaphor Of Late Singer Ojolowo by Jimsonjaat96(m): 1:26pm On Sep 03, 2023 |
By: Idowu Muhydeen Oladipo IMO What is the actual meaning of Ojolowo? This is very deep, and there are a lot of lessons to be learned from the appellation given to this great departed soul, a talented traditional musician from a suburb in Ilorin who has chosen Offa as his second home. Let’s learn from the deep meaning of Ojolowo. It literally means money is rain. If money is described as rain, then what is the attribute of rain as it relates to this context of money? If it rains anytime, it’s a good expectation from people, and it is considered a blessing from God almighty. No matter how significant this rain may be or how people make the best use of the opportunity to have rainfall, it will surely stop. Yes, no rain falls forever. This is very deep and connotes its application in the context in which it is used. In some other Yoruba applications, money has also been described as Alejolowo. This is almost similar to the message being passed on to people. In both contexts of Ojolowo and Alejolowo, the message and the wisdom are to be very careful and conscious of money in our day-to-day lives. Money is like a visitor that will surely leave or depart. The late icon behind this great metaphoric name, Ojolowo," is gone. His name is a household brand not only in Offa but in the entire Ibolo land. He is described as a musical genius without a rival. He is a successful man, having produced offspring who have propagated and promoted the brand beyond the shores of Ibolo Land. Today, Ojolowo is popular in Kaduna and some villages or towns predominantly occupied by Yorubas. He will forever be missed at most gatherings and occasions in Offa. Adieu Ojolowo Baba Taju. May your soul be received in the best abode of Jannah. Amen. Idowu Muhydeen Oladipo is the National ODU Social Secretary and Ag. NPRO writes from Offa |
