G20 Tussle - Nigeria REJECTS AU Membership of G20, Seeks NIGERIAN Membership

Nigeria is REJECTING a proposal gaining ground at the G20 summit in Delhi to the effect that the African Union should be admitted as a bloc member of the Elite body of nations, the G20.

The federal govt has made its opposition to the idea very clear in Delhi, describing it as an insult to Nigeria, the biggest economy on the continent, to be denied a seat at the G20 table like fellow regional powers around the world, and instead being lumped with the entire African Union.

In a special interview with an Indian TV station, President Tinubu's media and publicity advisor, Ajuri Ngelale, said the Nigerian government will strongly resist all attempts to insult the country in this manner, and that President Tinubu would make his feelings known to Prime Minister Modri, who has been pushing for AU membership of the G20, at a later meeting they are scheduled to have!

Nigeria is a giant in population only. It’s not serious enough to be a G20 country, especially with a thug as president.

Wrong.

Nigeria has been Africa's most populous nation since 1914.

But it was only in 2014 she became Africa's biggest economy.

That shows there has been economic expansion and development, and that it's not just about population.

A good example is Ethiopia. They are the 2nd most populous nation in Africa with 120 million people, yet their economy is only the 5th largest in Africa. If it's all about population, they should be the 2nd largest economy.

No need suffering yourself to explain certain things to an unpatriotic element that uses SM platforms to disgrace himself, family and the country at large.

In a list of countries by per capita GDP (the most important economic measure), Nigeria is number 143(!) with a per capita income of $2284. Like I said, a giant in population only. Doesn’t deserve to be in G20.

And India is 127th on the same list and Pakistan is 138th.

Virtually the same position as Nigeria.

But they don't have your inferiority complex and low self-esteem that always tells you you are not good enough.

But India was in the G20 long before they supposedly went to the moon.

So why are you kicking against Nigeria being in the G20 because Nigeria hasn't gone to the moon?

Why do you hate your background?

It's not natural.

God did not create you to feel inferior to other races, and hate your fellow Africans.

Nigeria is Africa's tech hub. Go and read the news. Lagos is the startup capital of Africa. It surpassed Johannesburg and Cairo as the city with the largest number of tech startups in Africa, about 3 or 4 years ago.

Be a proud African and stop feeling inferior and hating on your own background.

What an insult! G20 was formed on the basis of economy size- GDP, if i remeber correctly. Why should AU be lumped. Why was AU not lumped when SA joined? They will beg Nigeria to join. China didnt lobby to be world power. Reality check called the west to order!
It was why i shuddered when some said BRICS rejected Nigeria. Why should Nigeria join when the name is BRICS? Illeteracy.

The simple question is 'How is G20 Membership determined'?

If it's by Nominal GDP then Nigeria should be there as it's GDP is higher than South Africa.

If it's by Per Capita Income then Nigeria should not be there as it's per capita is quite low. In simple terms even though we generate more revenue then SA, we have a much larger population to spread that across. Per Capital income is a much more accurate measurement of a nations welath.

Comparison is wrong my friend, Nigeria is a failed experiment and doomed one. You are unable to see or perhaps you are unaware about the most Crucial Fact about Per Capita income, Your expenditures due to cost of living include this and you will see the difference
Even without much higher GDP Per Capita (But far better then us), An Ordinary citizen in Delhi can Comfortable live while enjoying world class facilities and services.
They are net manufacturer with huge industrial base , Modern Agri sector, Superb IT infra, thus cost of Products and services is well within the reach.
i never paid more then 3 usd for internet while i was there for study. Everything is so dammn affordable, Their government keeps an eye on prices and unlike here government works for their people.

So don't just relate with the Per Capita. They are way way beyond our reach. Below are few examples for you and others;

Unit cost of Electricity(Domestic Consumer):
India - Free in most states(upto 200 Units), Farmers don't have to pay a single cent
Nigeria - 64

Internet (10 MBPS monthly plan)
India - 2500 Naira
Nigeria - 28000 Naira

Wheat Floor(Good quality 1 kg)
India - 335 Naira
Nigeria - 800 Naira

Rice (Best Quality Basmati Rice 1 kG)
India - 1050 Naira
Nigeria - 4000 Naira

Healthcare (Complete Knee Replacement Operation)
India - 1.5 M Naira (Top class service and satisfaction)
Nigeria - 10 M Naira (You know the result)

I do hope you get my point.
