So the new terminal isn't bigger than the old? So what the essence of building a new terminal then?

Someone should please explain to me

If the peak design says 15million, then, they should divert air traffic to other regions/Airports.

Choking Lagos and Abuja with air traffic will only lead to anguish.

By the time convenience is given priority, meritorious figures will emerge in our economic life but now, its still inconveniencing preferences over convenience.
The fraudulent citizen of Lagos won't accept this idea

Always posting rubbish trash.
I'm a very frequent flyer on Delta flights from Lagos to Atlanta .
I asked their boss one day how.come they are still in the old terminal while others have moved to the new terminal which is better and more modern.
His answer is just that they were being lazy about it and don't want to spend money to make the move.
Does that make any sense to us the traveling population?
No it doesn't it.
If Hartfield airport in Atlanta ask any airline to move, regardless of the cost, then they must move asap.
I'm glad that they are making them all.move.
How can you properly renovate the old terminal if normal operations are still ongoing on daily basis.
Even the old terminal cannot accommodate such huge planes adequately.
Delta flies A320 but once we land,we are always told to remain seated because they have to tow the plane to the last 100 meters before we can disembark.
So that's just an excuse.

Nigeria needs an international standard airport.
The FG should borrow money to build a world class airport on the scale of Istanbul or Atlanta Airport. Then create a word class airline that will connect people to all parts of Africa and the world.
This will generate serious employment opportunities and bring instant developments.
This should be built somewhere between Lagos and Ogun so that it's close to Lagos but not in Lagos.
Hartsfield airport is one of the reasons why Atlanta became what it is today. Istanbul basically copied the same idea so also is Ethiopia.

I said it few weeks ago when keyamo visited the airport and gave marching orders, You do not just enter a ministry, you know nothing about and start dishing orders. As a green horn, you study and understand the issues on ground for few months, before making informed decisions.
He obviously has good intentions, but acted based on gra gra, thinking you can use common sense to solve specialist problem.

MMIA Terminal 2 though modern in terms of aesthetics, is badly located and smaller in terms of passenger capacity than the older terminal.

Second, there is no large area of land to build any more airport in
Lagos State. The only proposed new airport initiated by Lagos State in the Lekki-Epe axis hasn't taken off but a lot of precious ancestral homelands were taken from the indigenes.

More than 90 percent of the total land mass of the current Lagos State was on May 27, 1967 carved out of what is now Ogun State (then part of the Old Western Region).

Ogun State has more land closer to
Lagos State to build a standard international airport if they want to.

I think that the Lekki airport idea should be canceled. That area will be too congested with any airport. I'm from that area, so I'm Very aware of what's going on there.
I know that the president has many other issues 5o deal with but building a world class international airport in Ogun state should be a priority.
This is rhe easiest way yo open up Nigeria to the world with an international world class airline.
Other countries have tried it and it works.
Connect the rail system to the new airport to go to all parts of the country.

Indeed... Very well said. That's the way to go!

Festus Keyamo's mother is originally from the Ilaro axis of Ogun State, but his father is Urhobo from Delta State, so it should be easier as a matter of urgency to approve and further upgrade the new International Cargo and Passenger Airport in the Remo axis of Ogun State to decongest MMIA.

Link with a rail system like you said and voila... Economic boom and the ease of doing business improves by several notches.

All the best!

Some Nigerians are euphoric whenever ‘bad’ news is said about Nigeria. We know the country is tough for average Nigerians, but it isn’t an excuse for us to be perpetually cynical about every decisions the government makes. I’m not a fan of Festus Keyamo because he’s garrulous, with a penchant to be insensitive. Keyamo might be wrong on the directive that airlines use the new terminal, only time will tell. In the meantime, let’s seat back with an open mind and watch how things play out at Terminal 2. And while we’re doing that, I hope the federal government will be making conscientious efforts to expand the terminal so it can accommodate all types of aircraft. Nigeria better na for all of us.

The cabals...the enemies of progress prefer the old terminals where they can continue to collect money on daily basis...now with the new terminals and cameras everywhere..you will be hearing stories of end times. What is wrong with us...Iceland, Germany, US...they will use buses to move people to the planes...so whats the big deal if big planes cant dock at the terminals...we should stick to airport terminals that is always hot...imagine airlines fighting over weighing machines...nonsense article and complaints by nonsense people. If you got problem, quit and let new people take over. As a matter of fact, if i was the Minister and you lament nonsense...you are fired. There must be chain of command if you need to complain and not to the media. So unprofessional conduct...then again, this is NIGERIA.

Means you have not studied Lagos Plan. Lagos needs Lekki Airport...for those at the island and Eko Atlantic...everything will be expensive and that airport will probably boast the most expensive brands in the world. USA is building the largest embassy in the World at Eko Atlantic...you want them to come all the way to Ikeja to board planes...even Maryland alone in the US has BWI, IAD among others...yes Lekki is not huge but the economic potential is huge...some people just dont want to deal with MainLand...We can even make it a premier tourist destination for our foreigners. Huge Huge Forex potentials...all them embassies will soon leave for Island...those that remain...they are all waiting for that airport and Eko Atlantic LOL

This new Airport was built to compliment the main one not to replace it.
By the time refurbishment work is finished with the old airport, capacity will increase and things will come back to normal. Nigerians should learn how to bear while work is in progress
