A federal court in Chicago has ruled that Chicago State University (CSU) must provide all records related to Mr. Tinubu to Mr. Abubakar within two days. This decision follows Mr. Abubakar's application filed on August 2 to obtain these documents to support his challenge against Mr. Tinubu's election.

The core of the dispute revolves around Mr. Tinubu allegedly submitting a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a violation of the Nigerian Constitution. Specifically, Section 137 (1)(j) of the Constitution states that a person cannot be legitimately elected president if they have presented a forged certificate to INEC.

Mr. Tinubu's certificate indicated a graduation year that seemingly contradicts the timeline of a key university official, Elnora Daniel. Ms. Daniel's arrival at CSU occurred years after the purported graduation date. This discrepancy prompted Mr. Abubakar's lawsuit, seeking the authentication of these records and depositions of CSU officials.

Although Mr. Tinubu's legal team argued against Mr. Abubakar's application, Judge Jeffrey Gilbert upheld the request, citing the broad and liberal approach historically taken by U.S. courts under Section 1782, allowing the release of evidence for use in foreign proceedings.

This development is a significant step in Atiku Abubakar's ongoing legal challenge to Bola Tinubu's presidential victory and raises questions about Mr. Tinubu's eligibility.
