AE-FUNAI TO ESTABLISH NURSING, MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE, HUMAN NUTRITION AND DIETETICS
As part of its academic expansion geared towards providing admission opportunities for the teeming population seeking admissions into MBBS and other allied medical programmes, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, is set to commence Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science and Human Nutrition & Dietetics in the next academic session.

While speaking during a courtesy visit by the National Universities Commission (NUC) Resource Verification Teams for the 3 para-medical programmes, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Sunday O. Elom noted that the MBBS programme of the university was already at the clinical level, hence the need to establish some para-medical programmes to take care of the candidates who may not be able to gain admission into Medicine & Surgery because of its high competitiveness.

Said he: “History is being made today in AE-FUNAI. Our MBBS programe has advanced to the clinical level and we are happy to expand to other para-medical programmes to create more admission opportunities for our teeming youths

“We need more of these programmes to cater for the needs of those who cannot make it to MBBS, and more importantly, because of the programmes’ importance to the development of the Nigerian society.

“As a University, the programmes are important to us based on their high demand by people, and great benefits.”

Speaking on behalf of the Resource Verification Teams, Prof. Mohammed Idris, said they were representing the National Universities Commission on the exercise, adding that the essence of the visit was to encourage the university to move forward in the respected academic areas.

He explained that the National Universities Commission is a partner in the progress of universities in Nigeria by promoting quality assurance through peer-review mechanisms meant to improve the quality of academic activities.

He therefore commended the university, adding that the vision to establish the three programmes was appropriate.

Recall that the idea to establish the programmes were mooted by the Vice-Chancellor in 2021 during his inaugural address to the University Senate. It is therefore, a dream come true for the university and a veritable opportunities for prospective students
