FG Invites NLC, TUC To Emergency Meeting Over Looming Nationwide Strike by iwaeda: 2:06pm On Sep 29, 2023
The Federal Government, in a desperate move to avert the planned nationwide strike from October 3, has summoned an emergency meeting with the leaders of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and their Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, counterpart.

Vanguard gathered the meeting is scheduled to hold later this evening at Aso Villa, Conference Room of the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.

It was gathered that the government had earlier fixed the meeting for 12 noon today, but had to be shifted to evening to enable Organised Labour to reach out to their leaders outside Abuja.

According to sources, the NLC and its TUC counterpart received the government’s invitation this morning through the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The FG was always going to "intervene" before Tuesday.

Looking forward to the outcome (if the Unions decide to attend).

Sad thing is common Nigerians will still suffer for any action taken regardless (strike or no strike). We are between the devil and the deep blue sea.

May God help us!!

If the FG refuses to agree to the NLC demands, let the strike be activated

Let's see what the FG will offer Labour in today's scheduled meeting at Aso Villa, Chief of Staff's office to the President.

Union leaders should be circumspect in their dealings and be BOLD to walk out of the meeting if the FG officials talk rubbish.

Nlc/tiTuc need a concrete agreement and a quick timeline for the implementation.

That's the problem with the Nigerian govt, always reactive but not proactive. Organized labour gave their intention to go on strike since June 2023 and instead of attending to the issues in contention, the FG went to obtain a court injunction restraining labour. Is that how to solve industrial disputes?

Labour isn't asking for too much, now are they?
Are they have asked for are within the means of govt to give but wickedness won't let them do so.
Because Tinubu and his key govt men are provided for by the govt, they don't know and care what the ordinary man is facing.

Unfortunately, the govt has supporters even among the oppressed because of religious and tribal affiliations.

Long overdue, they should have done this weeks before now.
This strike should it go on as planned will be very dangerous to the government.
Many people are really suffering
