Why Igbos are migrants from Ile-Ife, as posited by Ooni Ogunwusi

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has posited that there is documented evidence that shows the Igbo race migrated from Ile-Ife in Osun State.

The monarch stated this while challenging Nigerian academics to properly document the history of the Yoruba race, rather than relying on biased history.

According to him, proper documentation will reveal the ties between ethnic groups, providing evidence that the Igbo race migrated from Ile-Ife.

The Ooni, while speaking with journalists, noted that there is an Ile-Igbo in the palace, which was not recently created but has existed there for decades.

"For these and many other reasons, I believe that we need proper documentation of our history. We are not involving the government in this project so that we can put all the facts together. We must write our history properly and present things in the correct manner for future generations," Ooni stated.

Reacting to this, an anonymous person revealed many correlations between Yoruba and Igbo language and culture.

He said, "Ndi Yoruba and Ndi Igbo have too much and too many things in common. For example: ifa/afa, omi/mmiri, enu/onu, ogede/ogede, apo/apa, akwati/akpati, eran/anu, ewure/ewu, okuta/okute, ologbo/ologbo, and many more.

This confirms Wikipedia's finding that the Igboid languages form a cluster within the Volta-Niger phylum, most likely grouped with Yoruboid (Yoruba) and Edoid (Edo).

This is possible because sometimes I wonder why the sumilarities in so many words and they mean almost the same thing....the linkage must be verified..

Which origin? Origin bitters? That inbreeder is your origin not mine.

This Oba have no shame, always getting involved in petty issues that drags the reputation of his seat on the soil, even his marital life is a disgrace.

Saying igbos migrated from Ife is not a lie and at the same time not the whole truth.

The ancestors of Igbo people left their original homeland so where around the kogi area and scattered in all directions into the thick rainforests of what is today modern southern Nigerian, a good number of them found themselves in the Ife area and established there. Most moved into what is today modern SE Nigeria.

The group around IFE and SW Nigeria were still later displaced by an influx of the ancestors of modern Yoruba, this is enshrined in the Moremi story of IFE kingdom.

This group of displaced igbos can be found mainly west of the Niger, again not all igbos west of the Niger are descendants of this Ife displaced people but some Igbos also moved to that direction from the Modern SE as a result of the rise in the influence of the Bini empire.

It’s largely a complicated history of migrations and return-migrations but one thing I can tell anyone for sure is that igbos are very close to the root of the antiquity of human existence in Africa.
