Useless shortsighted people are allowed by their creator to live long and see how useless they were at youth.
Europeans who created Nigeria 🇳🇬 have been dismantling all the multi cultural and multi religious/ethnic countries that once existed in Europe because they know that such countries don't thrive.

There are too many sovereign countries at the UN smaller in population and land mass than the population and land mass of Gowon's ethnic group in the Plateau.
What matters about one's country is how happy and contended one is about one's country; not how big or rich one's country is. Like Gowon like Azikiwe and Ironsi - all shortsighted and useless persons.

If you lay your hands on some of the history books that covered that era, you will find out that he had no choice. He would have been killed and Murtala Mohammed would have taken over if he did not prosecute the war.

Berom people are mostly pacifists. If not for Fulani that gave them a false sense of belonging and used them as cannon fodder during the war- they would have all been wiped out by their Fulani masters
