When I read the headline I thought you got PR. My brother visit visa is not a visa for relocation, understand that and have peace.

If you had a PR, I would have advised you to go. 500k is just 650 CAD as at today. It may become 500 CAD before December they way things are going. That means you are better off earning in CAD than that useless naira.
But since you are on visit visa, it's better you stay in Nigeria.

It's not just the initial 500K, it's other perks and opportunities that come with it. Then again so it may come with Canada too. It's not easy..

Thanks bro for making so much sense. I wanted to help a brother and It was so hard to break it down like this.
Thanks for breaking it all down.
A lot of people here knows nothing about all these and all the lies travel agents feeds them. Everyone acts like they know what they are saying.

alphabbey1:

Sure, let's paint Canada with the most negative brush based on the experience of someone on Student Visa...

You are referencing someone that's on student visa, Yet to have the Canadian education certificate to take on skilled work and supposed to be working 20 hours per week... With what that person wrote, he's doing more than 40 hours per week and probably receiving below minimum wage coz he's doing under the table Job so it doesn’t reflect on his work history?

With that same work he's doing without any education or work experience requirement, he will still be able to pay his house rent, school fees, and food.... Yet, the ungrateful soul is complaining... why didn't he come back to Nigeria and be working in sumal or Yale. Let's see which one is stressful with better pay...

Immigration for student anywhere in the world clearly says, pay your full tuition fee or have means to make your payment from your home country business or sponsor and also have one year living expenses.. But everyone will lie there way with fake POF and start ranting when reality of there criminal act dawn on them...
In UK, they will complain, in Australia, they will complain, in Canada, they will complain, in US, they will complain, like goverment is supposed to leave citizen and PR holders and provide for student ?

As a student, you are meant to come with enough funds, many will go empty handed and start hustling for everything down to toothbrush. The worst ones are those on visiting visa. As in, why the fvck will you come to a new country with the mindset of working when immigration policy clearly says no...
Travel Agents will lie to them, They will come, become homeless, and start blaming the Canadian goverment...

In summary, kindly focus on the complain of a citizen or pr holder of a country and kindly ignore that of any student....

Oh, it is multiple entry. I can be in Canada for six months at a time, valid for 10 years
Multiple entry visit visa to Canada is for holiday/visit. If it was a PR I’d have advised trying to get a job in Canada. I recently read of Ontario alone as a home to over 20,000 technology companies

If you're a software developer or devops guy, go to Canada. 500k na just 500 USD. For Canada you can easily land a better job remote or in-person.

But those in the know say I need PR or it's menial "hustle". I'm "upper class" here and cold makes me sick. Why can't things be simple for ONCE?!

I tell you my brother. Don't know if it is spiritual. Instead of one clear choice, I'd always get two that will lead to some regret about the one not chosen!
Since you have been dreaming to leave this country, please leave this is an opportunity, that Job looks like a distraction to me.
Mind you our country Nigeria is not getting any better soon, we and our leaders are not ready to change and the circle will still continue.
Don't use other people's luck to judge your own, it is not everyone that travels out that makes it. But believe yours will be different. Have that faith. From there you can also decide to head to another country better than Canada.
However I have friends that stays in Canada but they are doing well.
Leave the country immediately don't have a second thought. There are 1001 reasons why Canada is better than Nigeria. You can't even compare the both.
God bless you on this decision, you will not regret it. Shalom.

studycenter:

I can tell what you have is a visitor visa.
Without a work permit, that'd be a real hustle by the time you land. The 6months stay condition of your visa is a turnoff for most employers that'd want to hire on a long term.

Advice: take the 500k job for now and tell your frnds in Canada to recommend jobs in tech for you. Tech people can get job from outside Canada. Once you land one, you can travel by then.

While you're here, you can consider PR visa as well. People in tech have enough advantage getting Invitation to Apply from provinces in Canada.

Thank you for very good thoughtful advice. That was my thinking too, come to find out when I talk to people there it's not that easy. One thing I dread is going from eating at table as oga to being the server in a cold place

If it is a full residence visa, no contest, go for it

They graciously gave me a visiting visa, 6 months stay with 10 years expiration. Can't bear not to use it

Settle with the job, if your story is real. Open your ticket. Its valid for one year. Jettison Canada for now and use it next year on vacation, If your visa is up to 2 years minimum
Re: My Dilemma: Canada Or 500K Tech Job by AllDModsAreMaad: 4:58pm On Oct 15, 2023
It seems your visa is a visiting one, if yes.

Take the job and make more money, I believe the job will come with periodical leave, right?

Use the leave to go explore things in Canada, come back and continue your job while still making your plans, in 1 year or two or three years, you should be able to make enough money to get you PR, and also enough experience to get that top job you seek in Canada.

But if your visa is a PR (working etc), the only option should be continuing with your trip.

Although,I later learnt that it's a visitor Visa you have. In that case you might wanna postpone the permanent relocation. Since you got plugs for tech jobs, you can visit to try to leverage on that for a skilled worker sponsorship. Take the 500k job and fund your trips.

Omo I fell it's great that a friend will house you o. But a job of 500k with adons is really good. In my opinion, take the job and work it for sometime get some money and more experience and then seek Canada jobs from here.

From your chats is a visitor's visa why not stay back with a good job and work towards a work visa.

My mindset too, but honestly my feet are really itching. I have ideas and dreams.. but I hate cold

Baba don't follow this advice. use your tongue to count your teeth. N500K is just $500 for a whole month. something your can earn in less than 3 days there in Canada doing menial jobs. I currently earn far above that amount here in Nigeria. i trust me i have been leaving from hand to mouth. N1M is not enough to take care of a family with 3 kids in this present Nigeria. and trust me it will only get worse. Am Japa to Canada anytime soon.
Are you sure you earn one million naira a month?
