A Civil Society Organization, Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), has petitioned the international community including 11 powerful countries to impose strict sanctions and visa ban on Governor Abdullahi Sule and Professor Ishaya Tanko (VC Of UNIJOS) for their roles in the March 18 gubernatorial elections in Nasarawa State.

The CLO revealed that it has formally sent petitions to the government of the United States of America, the UK, Canada, Italy, France, Germany, China, Saudi Arabia, Australia, South Africa and the European Union through their Embassies in Nigeria to that effect.

Showing copies of the petitions to the media, the president, Mr Igho Akeregha, warned that it was time to rein in anti-democratic elements who are bent on sabotaging Nigeria’s democracy with impunity, TheGuardian reports.

The way they rigged these elections eh! That's why I will never have any sentiment for professors and University staff in Nigeria. The rigging that happened in Nasarawa state could not have happened without them. It was blatant and open addition of results to favor the APC. Even such that the APC could not explain before the tribunal how it came about the votes it claimed to have amassed.

However, while Sule may appear to be a well cultured and principled person, the politics at play here are not the type someone gentle like him can understand. The forces that are marshalling to ensure that his victory is upheld are substantive. For them, the governorship is bigger than Sule. He is a mere placeholder. The next few months will be very interesting.
Sule is gone....believe dis....except Tinubu n Supreme court's repeats what they did in Imo

It's poverty that caused it. Na olden days lecturers and professors get value.

Governor sule really disappointed me, being someone who had lived most of his life in the west. Almakura must have taught him rigging 404.

He should have bowed out like gov fayemi did when fayose defeated him.

Lol.. its hustlers that go to America and the west.. not a multi billionare like Governor Sule. To relax they go to Dubai, Caribbean Islands etc to enjoy themselves. Even at my small level of 1million salary, I hurriedly left America cos I was tired after 2 weeks.. I missed Amala & Ewedu, gbegiri etc

Nigerians must find a way to solve Nigeria's problems. UK, US or EU don't care about you. If the person has money to spend in their country and boost their economy you think they will just listen to your petition?

Besides, a thief can spend his money in Dubai, Bahamas, Singapore, Brazil, etc. Our politicians only need the western countries for their education and universities for their children. As long as their children can go to those countries, they're fine. Heck! they even prefer to stay in Nigeria here while going abroad just for vacation.

If we can't find a way to deal with bad leaders here, then we're stuck. Nobody is coming to save us.

I disagree with your assertion, by the time these countries place a ban on them, it will affect their children from schooling their, don't forget that their health life is the hand of these countries. Apart from this, they enjoy buying houses, store their looted money there, all these will make them not to lose the opportunity to visit these countries.

So if they're going to patronize the education, healthcare, banking and real estate sectors of the western countries, what is the reason the western countries should ban them? That's my point. What's in it for the west? When you consider the fact that these politicians gives them access to Nigeria's resources, I ask again: how does banning them benefit the west?

I am a US Citizen for decades......no big deal with all these stupid cries of Visa Ban.

Do you think these folks go to America to wash Toilet or do menial Jobs

They often go for medical Checkups and shopping...

Which they can EASILY do in Dubai, Singapore, SA , China and many more!

Was Atiku crying for being denied US Visas ?

He just kuku switched to Dubai.

There are MANY Options when you have money.....they can EVEN buy Citizenship of Malta(EU) and other EU Countries and Caribbean for less than $100K.

Abeg!

AA Sule is a total disgrace to his name and the office he holds against people's will. Particularly that he attempted & striving hard to weaponize religion.

I believe the indigenous people have wised up.

As usual, many people in the comments sections are giving ignorant opinions of what is on ground saying that a rich man like him has no business staying in the west. Of course, many commenters did not read Sule's previous statement that if he doesn't secure a second term, he would relocate back to the States. The man has spent half his working life in the States and most likely a citizen, it's not about the money. Most of them saw Nigeria as nothing more than a cash out venture. If things don't work out, they can always go back to their base abroad. That's what Willie Obiano of Anambra state did. Same thing with Kemi Adeosun who moved back to the UK after the whole certificate scandal. Only the wise would understand what I just said.
