This gesture by Ronaldo stirred up quite a commotion because Iranian customs strictly forbid any physical contact between unrelated men and women, considering such actions as a violation of marital fidelity. It was reported that a group of Iranian lawyers filed a formal complaint against Ronaldo for his embrace of Hamami, and there were claims of a 99-lash sentence.

Nevertheless, on a later Friday, the Iranian embassy in Madrid issued a statement clarifying that Ronaldo had not been sentenced to 99 lashes for his interaction with Hamami. Moreover, his meeting with the artist, a devoted fan of the footballer, received widespread acceptance throughout the country.
