The Egyptian President said that the absence of a solution to the Palestinian issue led to an exacerbation of anger, stressing: “We are making efforts to contain the situation in Gaza and ensure that other parties do not interfere.” Sisi expressed his hope that his meeting with the US Secretary of State would be “an opportunity to find a solution to the current crisis,” which he described as dangerous and said could have repercussions on the entire Middle East, stressing that “it is important to reduce tension and facilitate the entry of aid into the Gaza Strip.” For his part, Blinken said that it is necessary to ensure that the Hamas attack is not repeated and that civilians are protected, stressing that “we must find a way forward towards combating Hamas’ approach.” Blinken added: “We stress the importance of the Palestinians obtaining their rights, but not according to Hamas’ approach.”

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said in a televised interview with the American CNN network that the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt is open, but the aerial bombardment has made the roads on the side of the Gaza Strip “inoperable.” Shukri said: “The Rafah crossing is officially open on the Egyptian side. It has been open all the time. The problem with the roads is that they have been subjected to aerial bombardment. So, on the Gaza side, the roads are not in a condition for vehicles to cross.” Shukri said that if foreign nationals in Gaza are able to pass through the Rafah crossing, the Egyptian government will help facilitate flights to return them to their countries of origin.
