Owaincouncil: Nigerians are illiterate and this is what they like go to America and see how Nigerians follow criminals and worship the same criminals. It's nothing to do with the government but the stupidity of the people. Today in Canada the only achievement for Nigerians is following their own criminal |

oluwaseyi0: ^^^ Fair point. But you see, a man cannot outrun his shadow. After selling the refineries off, the Nigerian government is still going to have to build and run things like schools, roads and hospitals. It is still going to have to run the civil service and the armed forces. It is still going to have to run diplomatic missions and trade missions abroad. It is still going to have to regulate private enterprise. The Nigerian government is still going to have to run itself - the executive, the lawmakers and the judiciary. The problem is that the waste, graft, inefficiency and corruption in the system - the nightmare that we have adamantly refused to confront, is not going anywhere. It is there now and it will still be there after the refineries are sold. It will cripple all attempts to have a society worth living in, even if all state owned utilities and enterprises are sold off and/or privatised. What will happen is that the unreformed public sector will become a full time leech that will bleed out and eventually kill off your newly sold or newly privatised companies (as well as older companies too) in ghoulishly creative ways. It will encourage or force private enterprise to break laws, ignore rules and cut corners. You can already see this playing out in some states in the country - private enterprise (e.g. oil service companies) has simply abandoned those states and moved to other states or left Nigeria for good. This exodus is also happening at the federal level. There's no escape. We are where we are because our institutions are weak, feeble or dead, and any country with feeble, weak or dead institutions is finished. Done. Sold! Such a country even if it is still alive, is living on borrowed time and will never, and I mean never, make it. The problem is not going to go away by itself. 2 Likes 1 Share |
