After the attacks, the Israel Defense Forces said they had carried out targeted strikes in Gaza for the second night in a row, getting ready for the next stage of their fight with Hamas. Diplomatic sources said they had made good progress in talks to free hostages held by Hamas, but some problems still remained unresolved. At the same time, European Union leaders did not ask for an immediate end to the violence in Gaza, but instead stressed the need for short breaks in the fighting to allow aid to reach the people. The United Nations said they were very worried about their work being stopped in the besieged area, because of the non-stop airstrikes by Israeli forces. In other words, if they fire rockets or attack Israel, everyone should stay put, so as to deter Israel from firing back… If Israel fires back, they’ll show the world the civilian casualties, to garner sentiments from the international community and force Israel to stop… and they repeat the cycle again
