Ifeanyi Ubah's Move to APC: A Step Towards Inclusive Governance for the Igbo People

By Barr. Ugo Ilechukwu

Introduction:
Since the end of the civil war, the Igbos have faced marginalization in the centre of government, especially following the civilian administration's takeover in 1999. Despite their unwavering support for the People's Democratic Party (PDP), the Igbos received little in return for their loyalty. This perceived exclusion from governance has left the Igbos yearning for a chance to be actively involved in shaping Nigeria's future. In this regard, Ifeanyi Ubah's entrance into the All Progressives Congress (APC) signifies a potential opportunity to achieve this desired inclusion and bring good governance to our state, Anambra.

The Marginalization of the Igbos:

It is undeniable that the Igbos have been systematically marginalized in Nigerian politics. Since the civilian government came into power in 1999, the PDP, which the Igbos strongly supported, failed to prioritize the inclusion and representation of Igbo interests at the national level. This absence of Igbos in the APC, which eventually wrestled power from the PDP, further deepened the sentiment of exclusion from governance among our people.

The Quest for Integration:

Historically, prominent Igbo leaders like Ojukwu and Ekwueme attempted to integrate the Igbos into the mainstream of Nigerian affairs. However, since their tenure ended, no leaders have emerged to champion the cause of the Igbo people. This is why Ifeanyi Ubah's move to align with the APC should be seen as a significant step towards reintegrating the Igbos into the Nigerian political landscape.

The Importance of Ifeanyi Ubah's Entrance to APC:

Ifeanyi Ubah's decision to join the APC has been widely acknowledged by key members of the party, highlighting the potential for increased relevance and political influence for the Igbos. By aligning with a party that holds a majority at the federal level, Ifeanyi Ubah seeks to leverage the APC's power to ensure that the Igbo people are no longer left out of governance decisions that affect our lives.

Jettisoning APGA for APC:

At this critical stage in our quest for inclusive governance, it is essential to jettison the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) party that has failed to bring significant benefits to the Igbo people. Nepotism and enrichment of individuals within the corridors of power characterize APGA's reign, further exacerbating our marginalization.

Aligning with the APC presents an opportunity to advocate for our interests and enjoy the favour of the federal government.

Conclusion:
Supporting Ifeanyi Ubah's quest to align with the APC presents an opportunity for the Igbo people to regain relevance and participate actively in Nigeria's governance. By abandoning APGA, which has not delivered on its promises, the Igbos can forge a new path towards true inclusion and representation. Let us embrace this chance to advocate for the interests of Anambra people and work towards a Nigeria where the Igbos are not only heard but also crucial players in shaping the future of our nation.
