"Embracing Ability Within Disability: A Transformative Gathering" Njelita Okwudili, Poet, Public Affairs Analyst, Chidolue Patrick On the 7th of November, 2023, all paths converged at Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka, for the National Disability Employers Exhibition and Awards Ceremony. This impactful event, orchestrated by the Centre for Disability and Special Needs Research (CENDASNER) at UNIZIK, in collaboration with Employers and Friends of Students with Disability, drew together a diverse assembly of stakeholders, including philanthropists and advocates for disabled students. The occasion aimed to garner support for the center's skill acquisition building project through fundraising initiatives. During the opening remarks, Prof. Charles Esimone, FAS, the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, emphasized the significance of the day—a unique opportunity to commend and acknowledge benefactors dedicated to supporting students with disabilities. UNIZIK proudly stands as the first institution in the country to celebrate the worthiness of disability. Prof. Esimone expressed the university's commitment to enhancing the welfare of special students, thanking all supporters. He reiterated the administration's vision to groom students with disabilities to excel, equipped with various skills, reinforcing the belief that there is inherent ability within disability. Addressing the audience, Prof. Williams Obiozor highlighted CENDASNER's establishment by Nnamdi Azikwe University to cater to less privileged and disabled students. The center opens doors for these students to pursue education without undue obstacles, relying on the generosity of individuals, philanthropists, and humanitarians for support.
