NUC APPROVES 7 NEW ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES FOR AE-FUNAI
The National Universities Commission (NUC), the organ for the regulation of universities in Nigeria has approved the establishment of 7 new academic programmes for Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State with effect from the 2023/2024 academic session.
In a memo addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Sunday Elom by the regulatory body dated 6th November, 2023 and signed by the Ag. Director, Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei with reference number NUC/AP/F01/VOL.111/67, the Commission notes: “I am pleased to inform the Vice-Chancellor that the Ag. Executive Secretary has considered and approved the establishment of the full-time mode of the following undergraduate programmes to be run in the Main Campus of the University with effect from 2023/2024 academic session.
“The new programmes are: B.Sc. Public Administration; B.ML.S Medical Laboratory Science; B. NSc. Nursing Science; B.Sc. Human Nutrition and Dietetics; B.Sc. Ed. Computer Science; B.Sc. Ed. Economics Education and B. Tech Technical Education with options in B. Tech (Ed.) in Mechanical Education, B. Tech (Ed.) in Building Technology Education, B. Tech (Ed.) in Woodwork Technology Education, B. Tech (Ed.) in Computer Science Education and B. Tech (Ed.) in Automobile Technology Education.”
While expressing his satisfaction on the approval by the National Universities Commission for the establishment and running of the new programmes in the University, Prof. Elom noted that it was the fulfillment of one of his promises on his assumption of office as Vice-Chancellor when he vowed to sustain, consolidate and expand on the achievements of the previous administrations of the University.
He maintained that under his watch as Vice-Chancellor, the ideals and culture of academic excellence and integrity would be sustained in all ramifications in order to turn-out problem-solvers and solution-providers as graduates in all the academic disciplines of the university.
He equally explained that the mounting of the new programmes was to give more admission opportunities to the teeming Nigerian youths who are angling for practical-oriented education in a serious public university, adding that before the expiration of his tenure, more new proggrammes would also be established.
Recall that the National Universities Commission had sent some panels of experts in the approved programmes to the university in September 2023 on a resource verification visit to assess the human and material resources available for their establishment
