Most people especially Nigerians love to get things for free especially knowledge and yeah i know how the economy is bad and all that but that's really not an excuse. Aside that most of them want quick gain without investing much into learning what it is.

Most times when people reach out to learn about tech(UI/UX) to be precise, they want to be taught and mentored for free not minding how much goes into teaching and how much you yourself have invested in learning before you get to the position you are right now.

Going into tech is not for the unserious, its for those that are ready to sacrifice time, effort and also funds sometimes to actualise your tech goal. They mostly are only drawn by how much i make in tech and not the sacrifices made especially as to learning.

Although in my case my mentor was paid for by my cousin but i still had to sacrifice much of my time and effort to get to where i am in a short period.

And another thing I've learn about getting a mentor as opposed learning on your own is the presence of direction. Learning on your own is possible but you will also have to sieve through many information that ain't necessary which eats into the time you're really supposed to finish learning.

Lets say the required time to learn, practice, get a case study and do everything on your own is about 2 years, getting someone experienced to guide you through it will take not less than 3months and 5months max to getting your first gig.

And truth is learning is just a fraction of the hardwork in tech the main work is in getting your first paid gig and doing it on your own might take months if not years to actualise, getting someone experienced to put you through that process cannot be overemphasized especially now that the job market is oversaturated. The connections alone is actually worth it.

I advice most times that people who want to be serious with tech should always be ready to put in the work and make sacrifices
