National Honour List 2011. Are These Honours Still Honourable? by channel801(f): 7:04am On Oct 28, 2011
I read a report online that GEJ has listed 364 Nigerians to receive the 2011 national honours.

The recipients include Alhaji Aliko Dangote to be awarded Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON to become the first individual outside government to receive the nation’s second highest national honour.

The GCON has mostly been awarded to Vice-Presidents, Chief Justices of the country and Senate Presidents.

CFR recipients include Speaker Aminu Tambuwal, Attorney General, New HOS Alh. Isa Sali, Gen. Gowon wife, Victoria and some former military chiefs.

Chief Emeka Ihedioha, Senator Joy Emodi, Senators Smart Adeyemi, James Manager, Uche Chukwumerije, Udoma Udo Udoma, Olusegun Aganga, Emeka Wogu, Godsday Orubebe, Diezani Allison Madueke, Dr. Usman Shamsudeen,  Jim Ovia and Atedo Peterside are to be given Commander of the Order of the Niger, CON.

Nollywood artistes like Genevieve Nnaji, Stephanie Okereke, Olu Jacobs and Kanayo O Kanayo and Osita Iheme (Pawpaw) would be honoured with Member of the Federal Republic, MFR award. Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki) was honoured last year.

My questions:

1. Why 364 people in a year?
2. Why do the recepients mostly politicians and political financiers
3. Why are the politicians only of PDP even if they are of questionable characters
4. Why are the names of some of the awards funny, e.g MFR. Am I not a member of this republic?

Questions!

Some still find it honourable others like Wole Soyinka dont.

But Nigerians generally love titles.
