Higher education plays an important role in the socio-economic development of a country. Institutions for higher education are factories which manufacture skilled human resources through imparting, creating and disseminating knowledge and providing advanced education in a wide range of areas which result in the increase of productivity, business earnings and economic growth and thus are critical for socioeconomic development of Nigeria like other ones. As such, the universities are the generators of knowledge and students are the most important part of this process.

Nevertheless, after graduation, one of the most important problems that a student face is to choose his suitable career which is defined as the sequence of a person’s several roles and work experiences over time
CAREER
Choosing a career is not like choosing an orange from a basket. Successful career seldom happens by chance; with very few exceptions, people who really get what they want in a career do so because they define their objective plans and schedules for achieving their objectives, and assume personal responsibility for implementing and following these plans. These people monitor their progress regularly, improve their plans when they are not getting the desired result and persevere in the face of frequent set back until objectives are achieved. Many scholars have given their own different meaning to choose and career and some have further stressed their importance and objectives of selecting a better career. The dictionary meaning of Career is a way of making a living profession amongst career of opportunities. Many find it difficult to make choice in the sense that they lack guidance and counseling, making their choice without the help of any person. Several works have been done based on the determinant factors affecting career by students. There are opinions expressed on this issue that are as varied as the factor which have been included in the first chapter. In the same view, there is no doubt however that there are many factors responsible for the progress of a child backwardness or retardation VIZ; genetic factors (that are inherent in the child himself) and environmental factor (from the environment where the child grew up).
CAREER CHOICE
Career Choice is the most important event in an individual’s life. Person’s success and consequently; satisfaction and happiness depend on how accurately he chooses his career. Improper selection of the career or frequently changing the career is very harmful for psychological health. Once we invest time, money and effort in moving along a particular career path it may not be easy to change the path. It is well known that individuals who make career choices based on personal interests and abilities, show significantly higher levels of job satisfaction and are more productive workers. Students who have gone through comprehensive career counselling are disserting in their career choices, while students who make career choices without adequate and accurate counselling and guidance are at risk of being impelled to choose careers that are not suitable for them.

Career choice and development are the experiences of the total personality, and that the satisfaction thus derived from a career depends on the compatibility of a person’s work situation and personality type. To be ‘ready’ to choose means more than simply arriving at a point when a choice is necessary. Just as emoting in an advanced programme require prior mastery of basic elementary concepts, making a decision involves pre-requisites. The concept of “readiness” emerged from the basic motion that vocational choices should not be seen as single, point-in-line events but rather, as the result of previous processes.

The collection and application of career information build a bridge for individuals, enterprises and society. Influence individuals, promote work and achieve growth through career guidance. In terms of personal impact, professional information provides corresponding information support, explains that individuals understand the specific requirements of society for different professional roles, cultivates the awareness of professional roles, understands corporate culture, values, experience and norms, determines professional ideals, enhances personal social adaptability, is conducive to the socialization of individuals, and is conducive to the establishment of a correct professional outlook. Through these information and the guidance of vocational guidance practitioners is conducive to making wise career choices for individuals, and to the physical and mental health and personal development of workers.
