I believe that they were defrauded by omonile or land grabbers who sold it to them intentionally and the unsuspecting public bought from them. The people that chased the FHA officials from the sites are the land grabbers
Omonile activities in Lagos is worrisome. They can sell land to you, if you don't develop it, they'll sell that same portion to another person and get you another site that may be smaller and farther from the first place and nothing will happen. I think the govt failure to take them head on could be because they are mostly their foot soldiers.

I have a question sir.....

Who sold the land to them?

Can anybody buy land im such area without government

Do they have C of O

If all the above questions have government hand, then, why the demolition?

Thank you sir

They know the land and locations they were building on were illegals, FG bought the entire land since the 70s but only built on phase 1 while phase 2 -4 were mapped and planned
They bought the lands illegally thinking by building on it nothing will happen
They have themselves to blame, the playground we used to play on that also served as green area, one importer and exporter bought it but we the residents took him to court and stop it
He abandoned it and went to the buffer zone, now the property has been demolished
Most of the residents are very happy with this move

The path the current ibo generation are charting will only lead to alienation. Illegal structures are over Nigeria. The buyers know very well it is illegal but believe they can bribe their way through it. Then when a new government comes in and do not care about bribing you say tribal hate. Getting a land in the east the legal way isn't even easy as an outsider, why do you then say it is okay to get land the illegal way in another man's land? All this unnecessary tribal hate has to stop. So the law shouldn't apply to ibos? The other tribes that are involved, why are we not hearing them singing tribal hate?

Stop writing NONSENSE here...

Why all of a sudden after the flawed elections Lagos now realised that properties in the streets where Igbos dominate has one issue or the other and now the Tinubu led Federal govt has asked the FHA to go to festac and demolish properties there, simply because a certain people has most of the properties there.
I can assure you that Igbos are very tough people and in difficult conditions, they strive better and there is always positivity in every situation. It is now motivating a lot of Lagos Igbos whom use to think that they where at home with the cowardly Yorubas, to now start investing massively back home. I got to Akwa last month and it was a massive construction site, meaning more money and employment for home boys.Thats rexactly the way to go.
I am sure Igbos got the message sent by Yoruba authorities and at the appropriate time they will be paid back.
grin pls do, you wont be missed!

But it takes two to tango . If they bribe an official to carry out an illegality , they should be prosecuted as well as the building demolished . They should bring evidence of bribery against the officials so they can all go down . Bribe doesn’t change the law , it only postpones the inevitable .

I see what you saying but realistically it doesn't work like that because the government is held higher than the individual in this cases.
Here's why, the government has a duty to protect the citizens.

The government writes the laws.

The government enforces the law.

The government officials accepted the bribe.

Government turned blind eyes and refused to enforce thier own laws.

Yes, citizens have a duty to be law abiding but when they are misled by big brother government, that's bad.

The bolded is the problem.

The example you gave with the stolen car is comparing apples to oranges

The bottom line here is, if the government officials didn't collect bribes and did their job.. those houses will not be built.

The government has a duty to protect thier citizens not to enable criminal activity.

Ok ohh. So the fact you know there is kleg, you then settle one so called official that could be posted out the next week, no receipt or approval, it then gives you the boldness to continue to pour your hard earned money into the property? That is being smart by half. The joke is on you.
Oyinbo calls it penny wise pound foolish. (pardon the quote, just a general reference and not to you personally).

Government is the people . People are good and bad . There is no misleading here . It was either lack of due diligence or bribery and corruption . Either way , it is against the law.

Eg . If you get to a traffic light at red . You know you are not to move , but you give the traffic warden 50 Naira and drive through then you have an accident or road safety catches you , will you sue or blame the government ?

Government officials or enforcers accepting bribe doesn’t change the law. You only have rogue officials . And they are also breaking the law by accepting or soliciting bribes . Only the officials will be held accountable. Not the government . That is why a corrupt governor will go to jail and not the whole state government .

There is only 1 solution to this wickedness, Igbos and Biafra at large should stop investing beyond their rejeons to avoid this kind of wasted effort and hard earned resources. It is high time the old eastern rejeons politicians demand for a workable sea port and international airports in the old eastern regions to end this monopoly of the the west and Northern regions domination. Anyway Biafra is coming to address all this madness, Nigeria is never a country and can never be a country.

Do you honestly think only Igbos are affected ? It happens a lot in abuja and is it ionly gbos that are affected? People should stop being sentimental . If per chance it is only igbos , then the affected igbos are a lawless bunch . But I pretty sure other ethnic groups are also affected . Bad people cut across all tribes

This has all the trademarks of WITCH-HUNTING. Why demolish now?. Is it because Tinubu of Lagos is now in power at the centre?.

Yes, we know it's FHA parcel of land inherited after Festac "77. But why has there never been a demolition since. Why could FHA not accept a financial settlement to regularize their papers? So, what would FHA do with the land now?.

Any act of property demolition in Nigeria is an act of wickedness. But this here is pure cowardise. They had the lever to carry out demolitions now simply because Tinubu is at the centre. It's still FHA, Lagos office. Why are other FHA in other parts of the country not demolishing?. We have FHA lands in all 36 states of the federation.

OUTRIGHT DEMOLITION IS PURE WICKEDNESS AND WITCH HUNTING. THE OWNERS SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE OPTION TO PAY AND REGULARIZE THEIR DOCUMENTS.

The woman (Francesca James) said they visited initially, it was at block level, they stopped them, they did not answer and refuse to stop. They continued working.

Visiting again, they realised that the owners of the building have now raised the building up from block level. She said maybe the builders think that they were above the law....

This is one of the reasons why they were trying to bribe as they knew they had no case in court to stop any demolition.
what is wrong with land grabbers in Nigeria....wike will start his own by next year. They will warn them but they won't listen,it is the buyers that will suffer it.

Oyinbo calls it penny wise pound foolish. (pardon the quote, just a general reference and not to you personally).

Oga/ Madam.

I understand your point but I think you veered off the wrong direction.

Now, if you have gone through an approval process you might understand more.

I speak from experience in lagos state precisely.
I owned a property there once upon a time. (Location withheld).

When I acquired the property, I paid lawyer and surveyor and did the ground work etc. The thing was at the time, they said government charges xx amount of money to register land in this and that area. And I paid.

House was built on the land, I went through the same thing , paid for approval plus the envelope involved.

Now fast forward 5 years later after i sold the property, then house plus others in that area was demolished because of illegal structure because the new government had other plans for the area.

The person that purchased the house from me, even though it has been 5 years past.. I felt so bad for him.

No one ever told me the land was government land.. infact in the office when I questioned the large amount of money they are seeking to approve the building plan.. the oga brought files of others that have paid.. saying see I don't have to show you this but here you go.. this pesin that orsin have paid.. some even paid higher than they were demanding from me.

I went to some of those individuals back then and confirmed they paid so and so amount of money etc.

But nevertheless, those houses were all demolished even though they had a government approval. One of the things the government officials was saying at the time was ehn.. the government at the time have changed, the home owners should go and hold the government officials that signed off..

That got me thinking, isn't there continuity in government? So does it mean that if someone owed the past administration, the new administration will forgive those debts?

So this is where I draw my opinion from my own experience. If my land was a government land, why didn't the official tell me so instead of telling me I need to pay a higher approval fee because that's what government charges for lands and building approval in that axis, I was even provided with an official memo directing them to charge the said amount.

So the government has to do better by her citizens.

This is just wrong!!

Why do we have government in the first place ?

America would warn n ensure her citizen do not go to hotbed zones but Nigeria would let her citizen go without warning and wont even give a damn if they are trapped in war zones.

Here we are left to protect and defend ourselves with sticks and matchet. All those omoniles that sold the land would walk away Scot-free no punishments, and this people have location and address. No omonile has been punished for selling government owned land, the people who get punished are the victims of the illegal sale.

If you are stupid enough to buy land from Omonile without checking, that is your problem.
