Oche Salutes Nigerian Senate Over Minority Leader's Motion On Elected Council Chairmen
Vice Chairman of the Benue State Chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and the democratically elected Executive Chairman of Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, Rt. Hon. Chief James Oche has saluted the directive by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria calling for an immediate review of the dissolution of elected councils and the constitution of caretaker committees in Benue State.

It is not news that, the Senate on December 1st, 2023 further directed the immediate reinstatement of elected chairmen in Benue State whose tenure of office is scheduled to last till June, 2024.

The directive of the senate followed a Motion raised and argued by the Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Benue South, Comr. Abba Moro, same having been accordingly supported and unanimously assented to by the Senate.

In reaction, Mr. Oche has said the motion and consequently the directives given are in line with the constitutional tenets for a democratic society.

Oche said, the Senate deserves commendation for jettisoning political idealism for objective representation and acceptable democracy. He said it was unconstitutional for the tenure of elected chairmen to be shortlived to pave way for caretaker committees and enjoined the Benue State Government and the Government of other states to heed to the directive.

Oche who spoke in Igumale early on Saturday said Senator Abba Moro's disposition to leadership was unimaginable and commendable.
