Nigeria's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says Nigeria recorded a ₦3.5 trillion trade surplus between January and September 2023. NBS announced this on Monday 04Dec2023 via its foreign trade report for Q3-2023. As at Quarter3, Nigeria’s exports totalled ₦23.3 trillion, versus total imports of N19.7 trillion - giving the country a ₦3.5 trillion trade surplus. A trade surplus is the amount by which the value of a country's exports exceeds the cost of its imports. It is an economic indicator of a positive trade balance, and (if consistent over time) has some potential benefits for the country, as illustrated in the WallStreetMojo Graphic below.
