What they say is irrelevant, Benin empire ruled Owo, Akure, Lagos etc but they are still yorubas so whatever they had to do with Benin empire is irrelevant and has nothing to do with their ethnicityWhat they say is irrelevant, Benin empire ruled Owo, Akure, Lagos etc but they are still yorubas so whatever they had to do with Benin empire is irrelevant and has nothing to do with their ethnicity... 1 Like |

Gajagojo: Omoku is widely known as the headquarters of Ogbaland..It is a town in Ogbaland Ogba dialect is a distinct form of Igbo dialect spoken in Ogbaland. |

freshvine: Your analogy holds no water, just as two different states in the south could have same pronunciations of certain delicacies or items,so also it is in Rivers state, which Omoku in Ogbaland is not different from.... |

How reasonable is it for any self-respecting traditional ruler to leave his throne and go all the way to the home of a morally and ethically challenged politician to celebrate his birthday? Or is it that this so-called traditional ruler have no shame at all? 1 Like |

SmartyPants: Quit being clever-by-half! So at what point will a people who ‘migrated from Benin’, as you and some Ogba say, be assimilated and adopt the ethnicity of the place and people they met and joined up with!? After all, every group of people migrated from somewhere, even groups in your own ethnicity….which i’d go out on a limb and guess to be Yoruba (correct me if i’m wrong)! Onitsha has said they have links to Benin, but nobody is saying they’re a distinct ethnicity today or a outpost of the Benin empire! The Fulani that migrated from the Futa-Jalon highlands, how come they’re still a distinct ethnicity today and still managed to retain their language and customs!? If the Ogba got a epiphany after the uncivil war and suddenly realised they’re not Igbo, that’s ok with them! It’s of no loss to the wider Igbo nation! |

Donake:Yes despite Egi speaking an Igbo dialect that is not as clear as ogba they still retained there original title. Read somewhere Amaechi was responsible for Making the Eze Egi a first class chief so as to weaken the powers of the Oba of Ogba land. Today citizens of Egi do not agree to be under the control of the Oba. Just like Esan refuses to acknowledge the supremacy of the Oba of Benin over them. I guess karma visits everyone in there own kind |

Ogene001:Yes, oba of bini came from Ile Ife in Yoruba land, they are just twisting stories to get recognition from government which they will never get As at today, their oba is always seated behind ooni of Ife and that's why he doesn't like to attend federal government meeting that involves traditional rulers |

highness25: The answer to your question is here https://www.nairaland.com/6268289/meet-longest-reigning-monarch-rivers When you read it, you will discover that his father and his great grand father's that ruled before him used the title of 'Eze' Until when he ascend the throne in 1970, at the end of the civil war. he decide to abandoned eze and use oba. And also 'cooked'up a story on how ogba migrated from Benin. All those kids in nairaland that does not read history, should keep their mouth shut rather than saying what they don't know. |
