In Yorubaland, we don't wake up our elders with sidekicks.

We are not like some people from one region who lack home training because their stubborn great-grandfathers died like rats and couldn't live to train them
Pls, forgive them their grandfathers never knew what he was doing then.

Why won't you justify mannerless tribe that kick their fathers for greetings 😄😄😄

The whites that kicked their fathers for greetings, are you better than them? And let me remind you, I am not the tribe. Did
Hausa people kneel down or prostrate? Oga go and read books.

I hate all these tribal jabs, but hey, if we have to be sincere, there's a faint line between respect and eye service...and you guys are best at the latter.

So if your elder na thief, child molester and worst of all a nigerian politician that their stealing and corrupt character that have directly and indirectly killed millions of nigerians you will still prostrate to greet them or stretch both hands to greet them?

the only thing that is not constant in life is change... until we nigerians start to positively change things we go still dey for this slave house that stinks to heaven.

I will respect him as an elder but will show my displeasure with the way his actions are negatively affecting the people.

U wan beat me if I no greet u? Well, I'm not against Yoruba culture and same as everyone but u can't imbibed your culture on other's.. If u like use 20 years senior me I go waka pass u with no greetings but I'll exchange my hands first for u cuz na big see finish except u voluntarily do that to me. I'm only pissed off when elders want someone to greet em oga I no get time for that.

so far you dont stretch hand first,am good with you

it shows lack of home training

when your younger ones do the same to you dont complain

africa culture and values has been lost to western culture a very long time ago

i disliked postration but dont shake an elderly person first even if its just 5yrs difference

remember respect is reciprocal

You must be a coward. Hiding under words and discretion. As man man learn to say something boldly and own up to it.

It’s not actually your fault. Generations of cowards, what more could you expect.

Omoluabi will postrate to greet elders.

And after prostrating to greet them, you butcher them! 😏😏

Hahahaha.
I don't need to do that.
My children are returning to school in a couple of weeks. For their resumption, I need between ₦700k - ₦800k to settle them. You will do well to do this.

My aged uncle visited our house the other day, I went to where he sat to greet him.
I bowed in respect while greeting him until he brought out his hand for a handshake. I then responded with both hands.

It’s utterly disrespectful to stretch your hand first to an elder in a handshake.

That was how we were taught.

If Seun is serious about putting a stop to bigotry, 80% of the people on this thread should get a ban.

It's a fake headline. Normally, guys no dey stretch hand give man wey senior am for handshake not to now talk of a yoruba boy stretching hand to man wey reach him papa age before you come dey talk of say na king sef.
Thank you very much.
Other non Yoruba "cele - proud - brility" must have learnt a lesson here. Never stretch your hands to great our Oba(s). Let him do that to you after you have prostrated to greet him.

All these useless obas and kingship system should be scrapped immediately cos they a waste of resources..most of them are installed by the government to distract the people from holding our politicians to be accountable ..imagine traditional ruler attending a night club

Do know the meaning of ọmọluabi?

No tribe is lower or higher than any other. Anything that exalts tribalism/hatred or religiosity over humanity does not deserve a second place or any attention for that matter.

So I’m trying to let you know that you are first human before tribe so jettison the tribe issue. Every tribe has omoluabi, they just may not use the language omoluabi!

How can you convince me to jettison my culture, values and customs? That what makes me who I am. That is our identity. Ọmọluabi.
I learned English language but do not think in English. I don't wake up and be thinking of pizza or hotdog. I think amala, ewedu. No matter what enlightenment one has in Yoruba, we prefer our Aṣọ Oke, Aṣọ ebi, owambe.

So, the new normal is not our culture.

Ọmọluabi, if you don't know, conduct yourself well in every situation. In that you don't get humiliation.
If the fellow breeches the rule, you, an outsider can commend him. We will not.
Never.

I am proudly yoruba.
Ọmọluabi.
