Does Emirates Allow A Free Checked Bag? by WilliamCavil: 7:20pm On Jan 02
Emirates offers a sufficient baggage allowance for the passengers in order to make sure that everyone on board carries all of his/her essentials along. Though there are different baggage allowances of Emirates for different ticket types, fare classes, travel routes and seasonality – you can have peace of mind to get a generous one. If you require more baggage allowance on your ticket, you can easily purchase it later from the Emirates Manage My Booking online platform or buy it at the check-in counter during the boarding process.
Emirates offers cabin baggage allowance standardized for all the travel classes. Whether you are booking your seat in economy class, premium economy class, business class or first class; a passenger is allowed to carry up to 7kg of carry-on luggage along in a bag that is not more than 55 cm x 38 cm x 22 cm for its (length x width x height).
For the checked baggage allowance, Emirates offers two types of policies;
• Weight concept rule.
• Piece concept rule
By Weight concept rule.
In the weight concept rule for your checked baggage allowance, your total baggage allowance is dependent upon the total weight you can carry with your ticket type regardless of the number of bags. This allowance is usually for all of the routes of the Emirates except for the Americas and Africa.
The sum of the total dimensions of your checked bags under the weight concept rule is 300 cm (or 118 inches) maximum i.e. length + width + height (per bag). Additionally, one bag should not weigh more than 32 kg.
1. Economy Class travellers get a free checked baggage allowance from 20kg (44 lbs) to 35kg (77 lbs) i.e. varying based on the route, fare class, or ticket type.
2. Premium Economy class passengers have a checked baggage allowance of 35 kg maximum.
3. Business Class ticket holders can carry up to 40kg (88 lbs) of checked baggage with their tickets.
4. First-class passengers typically enjoy the highest checked baggage allowance from the airline i.e. up to 50kg (or 110 lbs).
By piece concept rule.
With the piece concept rule, a passenger’s baggage allowance depends upon the number of bags one can carry (each having its specific dimensions and weight limit as per your fare class and ticket type). So, the total weight of your checked baggage becomes irrelevant.
The piece concept rule applies to all of the routes of Emirates that operate in the Americas and Africa. Additionally, the sum of the total dimensions i.e. (length + width + height) of each bag under the piece concept rule of Emirates must not exceed the 150 cm (or 59 inches) limit.
1. Economy Class travellers get only one piece weighing up to 23 kg for the ‘Special fare’ tickets while two pieces up to 23 kg each for ‘Saver fare, Flex fare, and Flex Plus fare’.
2. Premium Economy class travellers have a free checked baggage allowance of up to 2 pieces of 23 kg each maximum.
3. Business Class passengers can carry 2 bags for their checked baggage, each having a maximum weight of 32 kg.
4. First-class ticket holders also get two pieces up to 32 kg each for their checked baggage allowance by piece concept rule.
Excess checked baggage.
If your checked baggage allowance exceeds the free limit, it comes under the oversized (exceeding the specified dimensions) or overweight (exceeding the specified weight limit) baggage policy of Emirates. Therefore, it is subject to some conditions.
• There is a fee associated with excess checked baggage that you need to pay to carry it. Alternatively, you have to compromise and remove the extra weight from your checked baggage.
• The fee varies depending on your fare class, type of ticket, travel route, aircraft configuration, as well as seasonality.
• The excess baggage fee can be per kilogram or per piece (as per the airline’s policies).
• The checked baggage which is only 1-2 kg overweight is usually permitted by the airline if there’s sufficient availability. On the other hand, the peak travel time brings the highest excess baggage fee even for 1 kg of additional weight.
• For economical rates, pre-purchase your extra baggage allowance from the airline’s online portal. On the other hand, buying it at the airport during the check-in process is usually expensive.

So, that’s how many free checked bags you can get for your fare class with the Emirates baggage allowance policy.
