BigDickProblems: It is easier to convoke with stellar grades from numerical courses. That is why in most universities, the BGS tend to be come from engineering or the sciences, especially mathematics or physics. 1 + 1 = 2 everywhere. Ayodele Dada was the first 5.0 pointer from Unilag and he studied Psychology. His saving grace I believe was entering the school via direct entry. But it is entirely false to say it is not possible to convoke with a 5.0 as an engineering student. P.S. You did not graduate with a first class. First class graduates don't mock or deride their folks. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Raskimonojendor: One year would not get him admission into an M7 or T15 business school. Yes, he had stellar grades and work(ed) for an elite firm, but one year work experience is too weak. He needs to do like three years. Ayodele, his senpai in 5.0 pointing, did three years before heading to Stanford. First at CBN, then P&G. P.S. To such people, it is M7 or bust! 1 Like |

Pitto: It is the standard in numerical courses. My alma mater's BGS was from the mechanical engineering department. In fact, except for the pioneer set, all BGS have been from engineering. 2 Likes |

BigDickProblems: Go and tell Boston Consulting Group that. Also, tell CBN, P&G, Stanford University and Knight Hennessy the same because Ayodele Dada graduated with the same grade from Unilag. |

Congratulations. However first class in nigeria na wahala. A grim reality is a good chunk may find themselves in POS boxes cause they were sentenced to education in nigeria |

Gerrard59: I can now tell how limited you are when you say if I am an American. Lols. It's ok Bro. We can't argue further. I still maintain that this result (5.0 CGPA in Engineering from Unilag) is inflated for whatever reason(s). 1 Like |

EmperorCaesar: Scholace:Smh. No serious employer or organisation will ever take you serious if you ever go out to say this. You better attend great schools or when you finish from those two small schools you mentioned, go for your post graduate in UNILAG, a top prestigious 1st-generation university, so that serious organisations will take you serious. Even LASU keeps coming to UNILAG to head hunt for their VCs. From Prof Fagbohun to the current VC, Prof Olatunji Bello, their offices are still in UNILAG o and will return after their time in LASU because they know the international clout and prestige UNILAG has and no other school has. 3 Likes |

Gerrard59:He studied engineering right? He won't think of business school until maybe 5 to 7 years of engineering or scientific experience.. When I say he would get scholarship to schools in the US, I am talking about MSc Engineering/MSc Sciences scholarships and maybe even a PhD, not an MBA which are targeted towards experienced grads. He may even get a job in an oil industry before completing his master's and eventually spends all his career doing oilfield and engineering management stuffs. 1 Like |

FreeStuffsNG:Yeah. At some points, Covenant university graduates were scoring scholarships at top engineering schools in Canada and the US for masters, no one cared to know if covenant was the best uni in Nigeria or not. All the admitting universities saw were stellar grades. The only Uni I knew that ever actually asked for 1st class or 2.1 from a Nigerian Federal Uni was RGU in Scotland around 2007ish, and they did that due to over subscription from Nigerian graduates for their oil and gas courses. During that era, some Nigerian oil companies used to recruit from RGU and others had their employees coming there for Masters. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Raskimonojendor: Bros, it does not work that way. A year's experience at Boston Consulting Group is equivalent to three years at PwC. A year of work experience at PwC is equivalent to five years' of work experience at Atutupoyoyo Consulting. These days, business school students tend to be much younger than their predecessors ten years ago. This is more so for someone with stellar grades from a good school and work experience from an elite firm. There was a Unilag grad, also engineering, who spent less than three years at McKinsey (BCG oga at the top) and got into Harvard Business School with a Seven-Up scholarship. No one who is interested in business school spends that long garnering work experience before applying. However, as you said, depending on his background and preferences, if he gets into the O&G industry, he might not be interested in b-school because of the hefty salaries. Whatever his preferences is his prerogative. But that aspect of spending seven years before b-school is outdated. Another thing: folks from STEM courses who work for strategy/business/consulting/finance/sales/accounting firms as their first jobs after school tend to stick with it rather than return to academic programs. This dude is going to an M7. I would be here to mention it in five years' time. 2 Likes |

BigDickProblems: It's not the first time it's happening in UNILAG. Several years ago, one graduated with 5.0 in computer engineering and honestly, people testified she was a geek! Forget, for this guy to graduate with this kind of CGPA, the guy was obviously far above his peers. UNILAG has had like three folks graduating with 5.0 till now...one in Biochemistry, Computer Engineering and psychology....I remember one of them attending an IVy league school for postgraduate.... These guys are in a league of their own. They just happen to come around the same time. If it had happened in the 1970 or 1980, everyone would have easily believed. But you can't fault the fact that these guys are exceptionally brilliant regardless of the time they came. 1 Like |

Re: UNILAG To Graduate 379 First Class Students At 54th Convocation by Scholace: 6:45pm On Jan 10 |
FreeStuffsNG:My brother finished from Unilag, while my cousin finished from LASU. I am not talking about ranking. They both confirmed how LASU is more academy rigid than Unilag. Unilag used OBJ for her year 1&2 undergrad exam, while LASU uses German and Theory from year 1 till final year. I understand Unilag has condusive learning environment unlike LASU, that may also be a favourable factor And for the employment aspect, that was in the past. It's not applicable anymore. Government or private firm will not employ you simply because you have Unilag on your certificate. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Gerrard59:Well, he studied Civil Engineering. I guess if he was hungry enough, he would be applying for a scholarship in the US and eventually end up working for Mobil, Chevron, GE, Eaton, Caterpillar, Tesla, Google e.t.c. in the USA even before graduating from an engineering MSc or he could decide to stick with KPMG or Boston in Nigeria. That would be his prerogative. I studied engineering as well - OAU. Alot of my classmate that went the consulting route, most quit after one year or two years and are in various location in Britain, US and Canada. I worked in Britain as well and currently working for a Canadian firm in the energy industry. Some veered off and went for an MBA, then moved into the executive management side of the engineering firm. The only one that stayed with business consulting/advisory (PwC) is now a director in South Africa. He did not even go for any MBA, he just got his ACCA. My opinion is just from my own experience. Maybe newer grads have different paths they prefer to follow these days. 2 Likes |

BennyDGreat: The elite MBA programs as ranked by USNEWS, Bloomberg and Forbes. Don't use the Financial Times to assess American B-schools' ranks. The FT works better for B-schools outside North America. Ivy Leagues mostly populate the M7, but there are subtle differences. MIT & Stanford are not Ivy Leagues, but Stanford GSB is part of the M7, but MIT Sloan is not. Brown University is an Ivy League, but not included as it has no b-school. The same applies to Princeton, another Ivy, but no b-school. |

My worry is, at the end, not much impact is felt in terms of research and production, which is the end product of any education, academic and research institutions all over the world. Our educational system and its products should be responsive to the yearnings and developmental needs of the country. Greater percentage of the first class are already seeking for further studies outside the country, where they will later reside permanently. David Akanmu won't even do his NYSC before he secures scholarships to top schools in US. 1 Like |
