THE Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina, has said the Federal Government would provide 40 per cent of waiver to enable farmers to purchase fertilisers at a subsidised rate, stressing that an agro-allied company would be established for the provision of technically improved farming.

The minister stated this when he a paid visit to the Kogi State governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, in his office in Lokoja.

The minister, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Technical Issues, Dr Fregene Martins, also said the Federal Government had concluded plans to revolutionise agriculture in the country.

According to him, the minister was prepared to assist farmers to improve on food production and open markets that would enable them to sell their products easily.

Governor Idris, in his response said the state government would partner with the Federal Government to revolutionise agriculture in the state.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Chief Joseph Faniyi, said the state government had devised strategies on how to improve agriculture in the state, pointing out that the sector remained very important for the stability of the country’s economy.

That is a great start but we need more than that. We need to subsidize farmers for being farmers. So they are more guaranteed to make profit.
