AFCON 2024 is actually referred to African Cup of Nation 2023 and this is due to the fact that it was initially stated to be held in 2023 but was later postponed or rather rescheduled due to the conflicting soccer activities of European teams which clashed with the AFCON competition.
However, this tournament will be hosted by Ivory Coast and will hold from 13th January, 2024 to 11th February, 2024. There will be six venues in five host cities and a total of 24 teams will compete for the Cup. Below is a full list of all the twenty four (24) teams that qualified for this competition and will further compete for the best amongst the best;
Nigeria ,Gambia , Namibia, Senegal, Angola, Morocco, Algeria, South Africa, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, Tanzania, Guinea-Bissau, Tunisia, Egypt, Zambia, Equatorial Guinea, Mali, Cape Verde, Guinea, DR Congo, Mauritania, Cameroon and last but not the least Ivory Coast (the Host Nation).
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, 13th January, 2024 by 3pm GMT+1. The venue of the match is Alassane Ouattara Stadium, commonly known as the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpé
Nigeria has won the AFCON title three times namely; 1980, 1994 and 2013 while Equatorial Guinea’s best performance was a fourth position in 2015. However the game of soccer has always been unpredictable and it is not recommended to down play or under estimate what an opponent that do.
