Najeebah: Tips to safeguard yourself, family amid raging insecurity in Nigeria
Najeebah, a young lady, was tragically killed by abductors in Abuja after being taken along with her five sisters on January 9.

The kidnappers released their father, demanding N60m ransom for the daughters by January 12. Consequently, the criminals killed Najeebah and left her body for her parents to bury.

Former Minister Isa Ali Pantami confirmed the incident, expressing condolences and calling for action. Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad also urged police intervention in the incident.

The current insecurity situation in Nigeria has certainly raised concerns for many families. Here are 8 tips to safeguard yourself and your family:

Stay informed: Keep yourself updated with the latest news and information about the security situation in your area. This can help you make better decisions and stay ahead of potential risks.

Security measures at home: Ensure that your home is secure by installing sturdy locks, security cameras, and alarm systems. Consider joining or forming a neighborhood watch group to increase community security.

Emergency preparedness: Develop a family emergency plan in case of unrest or violence. This plan should include evacuation routes, emergency contacts, and essential supplies such as food, water, and first aid kits.

Avoid risky areas: If possible, avoid traveling to areas known for high levels of insecurity. Be cautious about venturing out at night, especially in unfamiliar or risky areas.

Stay connected: Keep in touch with your loved ones and neighbors. Establish a communication plan in case you get separated during a crisis

Community involvement: Engage with local authorities and community leaders to understand the security situation in your area and to contribute to efforts to improve security.

Personal safety: Be mindful of your surroundings and avoid displaying signs of wealth or valuables in public. Consider taking self-defense classes or carrying personal safety devices if legally permitted.

Seek professional help: If you feel overwhelmed by the security situation, don’t hesitate to seek professional help or counseling to manage any anxiety or stress.
