Auchi Polytechnic, the only federally-owned tertiary institution in the Edo North district, finds itself embroiled in confusion and skepticism as plans for a second Golden Jubilee celebration emerge.

The institution, which has played a pivotal role in producing skilled manpower for the country, has recently appointed a special committee to organize the landmark event.

The Rector of Auchi Polytechnic, Dr. Salisu Shehu Umar, has named Engr Mrs Edith Oyati, Deputy Rector (Administration), as the chairperson of the committee. This move has reignited memories of a similar celebration that took place on December 13, 2014, during the tenure of the then-Rector, Dr.(Mrs) Philipa Idogho, in which Dr. Salisu was actively involved.

Despite the absence of a fixed date for the Golden Jubilee celebration, questions arise within academic circles about the necessity of a second grand celebration merely a decade after the last one. The skepticism is further fueled by concerns about the motive behind this dual commemoration.

The last Golden Jubilee celebration in 2014 coincided with the institution's convocation ceremony and was marked by high-profile media coverage and widespread publicity. Advertisements from well-wishers, the alumni body, and friends of the school added to the grandeur of the event.
