The Big Question Facing New Graduates: Should You Scam Or Find A Job? by Dimaya: 11:15pm On Jan 21 |
I visited a part of Lagos over the Christmas holiday and was stunned by the ostentatious display of wealth by young men in their early twenties. Imagine driving a petrol-guzzling car at 600 per liter. I was told by my bolt driver that the boys were all Yahoo boys and their numbers had tripled in just under a year. The sad part came later when he explained how he would abandon driving bolt for yahoo as soon as he saved up enough money to buy a gaming laptop with a years high speed internet subscription Then today, I watched a heart rending video of young Nigerians analysing strategies for yahoo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0r4pp-u_uI This begs the question: how do you dissuade young people from fraud in a country with terrible entry level salaries? 2 Likes |

Illegal1: Same here. In fact, I used to live in an estate that was strictly for young, upwardly mobile professionals. We had investment bankers, big 4 consultants, csuite executives and top level government executives living there. Until gradually, Yahoo boys started moving in. They came with all these young, slim girls in skimpy outfits and the neighborhood slowly began resembling a hookup hotspot. Folks started sell their apartments and houses and moving out. Today, almost everyone there is a yahoo boy. And it's scary. 9 Likes |

The country is too difficult and inflation is getting worse. Imagine, finding a job that pays u at least 50,000 a month which is not even enough is so difficult to find for the average person. People are still working for 28,000 job a month, how are we going to survive bruh Yahoo seems like one of the only ways to live a decent life in Nigeria but they should just not scam fellow Nigerians, their focus should be in Europe and America 10 Likes |

4mee:Where do you see work sef. a graduate will be earning 40k-50k monthly while his daily transport to and fro is 1500 or more , feeding for morning afternoon and night 1500(let's assume).that's 3k daily , calculate that in a week alone and it will give you almost half his salary not to talk of 4 weeks in a month. He still has house rent to pay, nepa bill of about 5k monthly,he go buy water, wear cloth, he still get family for village, he go marry ,born kids ETC. How people like that survive is still a mystery. That particular job has about 30more Interested applicants so he will even be called lucky if he gets the job. This country is rubbish. Say I never join the Yahoo sef na because I never see who go put me through 26 Likes 1 Share |

Namkbank: I'm a honest person. Work a decent job and invest the little I can. I'm also contented with what I have. Unlike most of you, I have no intention to blow. Just live my quiet life, stir up a little ruckus on nairaland and enjoy time with my family. And I'm grateful to God for all I've laboured for. You should live your life the same way.
