AVG lauds NSCDC, says arrested vigilantes are impersonators

The Anambra Vigilant Group, AVG has lauded the men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command for their doggedness in apprehending those impersonating the state vigilante group, stating that AVG is not going to leave any stone unturned in sanitizing the outfit.

In a statement released at the weekend by the AVG's Public Relations Officer, PRO, Mr. Nweke Nweke, said the men in AVG uniforms arrested and paraded by the NSCDC were not members of the group.

Nweke recalled that the local security outfit had before now, complained bitterly over the rate some youths were impersonating the outfit in the state.

Declaring that the three men apprehended with the local security uniforms were not in any way traced in AVG record, the group made it known that employees of the outfit had a known record as against those paraded by the Civil Defence Corps.

Recall that NSCDC, through its spokesman, SC Okadigbo Edwin did parade seven arrested alleged impersonators, among them are men three with the uniforms of the Anambra Vigilant Group, AVG.

"AVG hereby makes it categorically that those paraded by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Anambra State Command recently are not in any way staff of the State Vigilante and I am challenging them if they are saying otherwise to name their commander and the area they were posted to," Nweke noted.

AVG however, urgef the members of the public to discard the claims of the suspects and not to link the accused impersonators to their fold, stating that a powerful monitoring unit had been created to monitor those who always wish to reap from where they never sow.
