Its a slave and master thing, you say sorry you are guilty, it puts the business at a law case situation, to one its all about being polite to the other its an admittance to guilt 213 Likes 20 Shares |

Many Nigerians are used to saying SORRY instead of EXCUSE ME and that can lead to a whole lot of unwarranted "SORRY" especially in an office with high verbal communication rate. SORRY, where is the door EXCUSE ME where is the door. the most ANNOYING is the way people say WELLDONE in place of good morning or any other proper greeting. very off putting. Welldone say wetin I do? 329 Likes 32 Shares |

That is why we don't value the word like they do... We use sorry just as we use Abeg... Which is the typical programing of the African mind. But I believe in my life time Africa will be Great!!! Technology will see to it. 17 Likes 4 Shares |

thesicilian: As a business, saying "Sorry" has legal implications. Sorry is not politeness, it is viewed as an apology. Apology is an admittance of fault. You don't say sorry, if you're not the cause. There are other ways to show empathy. Na them get English, na them go teach you the real use. 132 Likes 16 Shares |

anonymous said: "You are very right…I once told a resident “it’s okay” she said No it’s not okay, don’t Telme it’s okay.I was like Naso dem Dey do for here?" I fell into this trap twice telling a client "it's okay" which by my own reasoning meant "I have heard you, there isn't any problem. We should stop discussing it" but the client flared "It's not okay". It was a bit of a culture shock, me thinking I finally understand how to relate with the white folks. This days, I listen more and talk less. That way, I am quickly able to process what they're saying before stringing up a response. 68 Likes 2 Shares |

MyExpression:First they're not the owners of English, English is owned by people from England, not Canadians or Americans. Second being too apologetic is never grounds for dismissal from work, no matter how callous the employer might be. So I maintain that she's not telling the whole truth. 31 Likes 5 Shares |

Kingzjayzee: it is not derogatory. it is still a very vital word but we still don't have to abuse the usability. But if asking you to use a word appropriately makes it derogatory, then there is nothing I can do about that. 13 Likes |

Reminds me of the rhyme 5 magic words. Please Excuse me Sorry Thank you Pardon me Most Nigerians prefer to use the 1st, 3rd and 4th. Question of the day - What's the difference between pardon me, excuse me and sorry? richiemcgold: You are dating a white? Which Nationality? Iyanouwoura: What happened? 2 Likes |

Sorry, Abeg, No vex.... Na so we dey add everything for Naija, people no get joy for here. In Nigeria sorry alone may not even be enough, you gats add the others. Even to ask for direction you hear someone say, "Excuse me please, sorry Abeg no vex, I dey go no 8 Hakeem Dickson drive, Abeg you fit show me the place "..... Para dey body for Naija. A lady rained insults on me back then, I was driving by around Dowen College, stopped her to buy groundnut, I asked of it was half-cooked, she said "yes", I had taste and it was more cooked than ewa'agoyin, this woman rained insults on me ohh, insulted my innocent mother and my entire Family and generation unborn. Passers by thought I stole her groundnut, one guy slowed down and said "oga pay her na". I just drove off, begging her want getting the job done 27 Likes 3 Shares |

Same way you don't add sir to someone's name. My lecturer in school told us (Nigerians) to be calling him by his name.. In his word... I have not been ordained by the queen or the king so I don't have that title to my name" 7 Likes 1 Share |
