How Former Governor Kalu Tackled Insecurity in Abia State Using Local Vigilante Group. Blessing Ikpe writes from Ihechiowa I think the government of the day should use the same method. Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu took the helm as the governor. Inheriting a state burdened by the clutches of insecurity, Dr. Kalu devised a unique approach to address the issue - he turned to the invaluable strength of the local community and created a formidable force known as the Abia State Vigilante Service (ASVS). Recognizing that a centralized security approach was insufficient to combat the complex and ever-evolving security challenges, Dr. Kalu understood the importance of involving the local population. He believed that a united front comprising the people themselves would be more effective in tackling crime and protecting Abia from threats. Dr. Kalu embarked on building a strong grassroots movement by establishing the ASVS.
