Children Of The Poor Can Rub Shoulders With The Children Of The Rich By Choice: by Toonice(m): 10:34am On Nov 09, 2011 |
Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has said the education policies of his administration are designed to bridge the gap between the rich and poor in the state. The governor, who stated this while inspecting some of the mega schools being constructed for pupils of primary schools in the state, which are in different stages of completion, said education was a veritable tool to fight poverty. Mimiko added that the Mega School in Okitipupa, Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state and the Model Secondary School in the Oke-Ijebu area in Akure had been completed, while those in Ikare, in Akoko North-West Local Government and Ondo West were at different stages of completion. He also said at least 12 of such projects had been awarded and contractors were at various stages of construction. They included the ones in Ile-Oluji, Ore, Oka-Akoko, Owo and Akure, the state capital. Mimiko explained that his administration planned to use the school to enhance social integration aimed at bridging the gap between the rich and the poor in the society. He said: “We are creating a social integration to ensure that the children of the poor can rub shoulders with the children of the rich by choice in the society. Nothing but the best is good for us in Ondo State. We told our people that what we are going to put on the ground will be world-class for the future of our state and the future of Nigeria.” “We believe that for us to re-engineer education and reposition it, we must provide the best infrastructural facilities of global standard. We are happy that we dreamt about this and God has helped us to realise it.” He was optimistic that the quality of the facilities and the conducive learning environment being provided by his administration would encourage the younger generation to embrace education, which he referred to as the only sector that could break the vicious cycle of abject poverty. |
