Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, born on September 8th, 1959, in Ika South, Delta State, is a distinguished personality in Nigerian politics. He belonged to the Agbor tribe and was a high chief of Ndi Anioma and Agbor Kingdom. Transitioning from a medical career, he entered the political arena, leaving a lasting impact at various levels. Early Life and Education: Born to Chief Corlenso Ojougboh and Mrs. Angelina Ojougboh, Cairo completed his early education at Pilgrims Baptist Primary School and graduated from St. Columba’s Grammar School in 1976. He pursued further studies at Auchi Polytechnic before attaining his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the University of Benin in 1985. Political Career Highlights: Cairo's foray into politics commenced with his role as the Chairman of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) from 1998 to 1999. His dedication to public service was evident in his positions as the Presidential Liaison Officer to the President on NASS and Special Assistant to the President on NASS (2007-2011). He later assumed the role of Chairman of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) from 2013 to 2015. Within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Cairo held key positions, serving as National Vice Chairman and Chairman for the South South region (2014-2016) and subsequently as Deputy National Chairman (2016-2017). His political expertise extended to roles as the Political Adviser to Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark and as the Executive Secretary of the National Unity Group (NUG). Notable Achievements and Roles: Cairo Ojougboh chaired influential committees such as the Petroleum Resources Committee and the Ad hoc Committee on EFCC Recoveries. He also served as a member of pivotal committees, including Power, Ethnic & Privileges, and Industries in the Nigerian House of Representatives. 2019 Gubernatorial Election: In 2019, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh contested in the gubernatorial race in Delta State under the All Progressives Congress (APC). His candidacy reflected his enduring commitment to public service and a desire to contribute to the development of his home state.
